Lanturnacht and more!
Posted: October 31, 2012

Before we dive into the rest of this planned newspost, I'd like to say that as a site, we are concerned and hope for the best for all our members affected by Sandy this week.  Below you will find a link to a yahoo page that has listed the various means and ways to support and aid those who have been affected. Many are still without power, and others are dealing with unimaginable losses.  Our hearts are with you and we will be here when you are able to make it back to our online community.

Yahoo! For Good

As a site, we will be making several donations to both humanitarian aid and for the humane society and those that are helping the animals and pets affected by this storm.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“It's Lanturnacht!” announced Archie, “Don your best costumes and grab your sacks—Trick or Treat time has been reduced for everyone!”
“You be doing well,” Belladonna told him as he stepped behind stage. “You be making Lanturnacht a big success. Your father be being proud.”
“Th-thank you,” replied Archie, choking up a bit.
“I didn't think ya had it in you,” Skreetch admitted. “But you really did come through.”
“I'm sure Jasper will be thrilled to see how happy everyone was as soon as he's out and about,” added Valerie.
“Cheers then!” chimed Elijah. “To a successful Lanturnacht!” With Ivy's help, he passed around glasses of white wine for everyone for a toast.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Meanwhile, Albrecht continued to invite guests into the Chamber of Evil.
“The moons are high and the spirits are restless! Lanturnacht is upon us—and what a season of fright it has been! Thank you all for making it a success! Time is running short to turn in your candy, and soon we will know who is the true king of Lanturnacht! There is one final prize waiting within the maze, can you find it in time?”
"Nothing to see here, move it along folks. Back to your homes."
"Stay indoors tonight, do not venture out. Containm- I mean, nothing out of the ordinary around these parts, but we have to ready for Lanturnacht. Move it along, don't dally!"
Final Days
Posted: October 29, 2012
Lanturnacht was just a few days away, and the festivities were in full swing. Freshly carved pommekins sat on doorsteps across Mistica, their faces flickering in the moonlight. Misticans of all types, from Faes to Imps, donned costumes and paraded to each other's doors for treats—and sometimes were tricked in turn.
Carnival workers displayed the last of their new stock proudly, enticing Misticans to play the games and enjoy the carnival and hte Lanturnacht spirit.
And other shopkeepers displayed their goods with pride as well!
At the circus, Archie stepped into the center ring with new-found confidence. “Thank you, everyone, for supporting the circus this year! It's your participation that has allowed such terrifying fun! Please continue to enjoy everything Jasper's Circus has to offer—this is the true home of the Lanturnacht spirit!” He hinted toward the golden box, now overflowing with candy offerings.
Deep in the Banshee Swamp, Albrecht also stepped forward to make one final plea. “As you have all felt the icy fingers of fear chill your spine in the corridors of my Chamber of Evil, you know what frightening joys Lanturnacht was made for! With your help, it can grow and expand from here—becoming the true icon of the season! All it needs is your support and donations!” He gestured with his ears to the bulging box in front of his chamber as his guests deposited more candy.
Meanwhile, Gregory sat by the door of Jasper's tent, greeting those who came to pay their respects to the Jinx. “Happy Gregory is. Happy Jasper is. You we thank cards for. Jasper you make better feel. You thank. You thank!” He smiled brightly, which seemed somewhat disturbing as it caused his eyes to glow and the jagged edges of his mouth to stick out.
Be on the lookout for the last of the new Trick or Treat goodies!
And finally, the waters of the reef may not be completely safe, this Lanturn Caribyss was spotted joining in the Lanturnacht fun!
The Spirit of Lanturnacht
Posted: October 26, 2012
The night of Lanturnacht was fast approaching, and there was a certain frenzy in the chilled air. A few overexcited Misticans could already be seen hollowing out pommekins and carving grotesque (or goofy) faces for flickering candlelight to illuminate. Phantoms dotted the sky like clouds, as they did in the days of the early settlers, though they seemed to have learned their lesson about torturing the living.
Jasper could see the lights of the circus and the cheers and screams of Misticans from his tent. Gregory was snoring on his nightstand, the hat exhausted, and Jasper felt like doing the same. He still felt groggy, like his brain was full of cotton, but he could at least move his head without the room spinning and he was taking fewer healing potions every day.
Archie, meanwhile, strode through the circus with a swagger similar to his brother’s. Oh, he lacked some of the jinx’s charm and crazy wit (not to mention the possessed top hat), but people waved to him and smiled as he walked by. His path took him by the Scary-Go-Round; children jumped up and down in anticipation as the line for the ride inched forward, while Ivy stood with her trademark smirk on her face. It wasn’t unpleasant, just too…knowing. She dipped her head as Archie passed the carousel in greeting.
While Jasper’s Circus and the Chamber of Evil were waging their battle for supremacy, all of Mistica had decided it was their duty to help fill the gap and keep Lanturnacht alive. You couldn’t walk by Creepy Critters without a Skull Spider leering at you from the window, and Lissa had taken to walking the dark halls of her library, muttering incoherently even though she demanded silence from her customers. A few of those customers claimed she was attempting to soothe the restless spirits and black magic that some of her tomes contained.
Albrecht’s mood stayed the same, though he had snuck by the circus the night before and noticed Archie’s crowd was rather larger than his own. Scowling, the koko had returned to the Chamber, determined to prove the circus an outdated attraction.
“The Chamber of Evil holds prizes for the bold that weaker minds simply can’t fathom,” Albrecht declared at the front of his dark stone maze, “Bright colors and silly shows will only hold children, while we dig deeper for Lanturnacht’s true terrors!”
Who are you supporting? Both of these would-be kings have their support, but who can say which one will come out the winner?
Trick or Treat times are now reduced to every 20 mins!
(10 if you are a champion supporter!)
TRICK OR TREAT MISTICA!
Loot for Lanturnacht!
Posted: October 24, 2012
Both Archie and Albrecht were desperate to get Misticans’ attention. Albrecht seemed quite calm as he ushered people into his Chamber of Evil, giving his too-knowing grin whenever someone dropped candy into his iron box.
The Banshee Swamp couldn’t be better for Lanturnacht frights, the koko mused, ignoring the chatter coming from people waiting to enter the Chamber. Cold mist hung low, blanketing the ground so no one could even see their feet. His patrons huddled close, tugging jackets closer to their bodies to keep warm.
But such a chill didn’t matter; they would stand outside for hours, Albrecht knew. As the moon began to rise and the crowd swelled even larger, the koko stepped on top of his candy box and addressed everyone now below him.
“You have all chosen wisely, coming here,” Albrecht announced, sweeping over the people with one of his long ears, “I have even more to give you this Lanturnacht!” From behind him Albrecht picked up several items and set them before the crowd with a bow. “Enjoy! That is... if you can find your way through some of the changes and seek them out!”
---
Quietly, Archie pulled aside a corner of Jasper’s tent to peek inside, expecting his brother to be dead asleep. Instead, he saw the jinx with his good eye open, looking around the room as though seeing it for the first time. He blinked at Gregory, who let out a growl that sort of sounded happy to Archie’s untrained ears.
Leaving Jasper to rest, Archie hurried out, knowing he was nearly late for the night’s show. This would surely put a thorn in Albrecht’s side! Lanturnacht wouldn’t be handed over to some shady trickster if the Bozoni brothers had anything to say about it!
The big top was crowded, to Archie’s delight. Never, when he had owned the circus, had it been so lively! But then, he’d done this, hadn’t he? It was built on the foundation Jasper had laid, but Archie wasn’t the failure everyone had expected to be. He grinned and tipped his top hat and the Misticans gathered all cheered.
“You will all be pleased to know that Jasper, Lanturnacht’s true king, is recovering!” Archie shouted, and the big top nearly exploded, “And I have prepared even more prizes, just to thank you all for your support. The circus will never die!”
Put your lanturnacht points to use with these new items!
The Fight for Lanturnacht
Posted: October 22, 2012
Archie paced his tent in near blackness. Outside, the laughter and screams of the crowds had died down; most Misticans had gone home, to recuperate and return the next evening. Or would they return? Albrecht’s Chamber of Evil boasted the sort of fright that Jasper’s Circus simply couldn’t! Even a brilliant sideshow and tricky games had trouble competing with walking into a cold, stone maze, never knowing if you’ll escape…
But the people adored Jasper! He was what Albrecht could never be, a figure who represented Lanturnacht itself. Even Archie had long come to peace with the fact that his brother could captivate like no other. Surely Misticans wouldn’t sway their loyalty so far and allow the circus to die?
And so Archie spent a restless night and half the next day half buried in boxes, unpacking a collection of new items and prizes he thought might entice a few new visitors:
When he next strode into the big top, exhausted but determined, Archie addressed the crowd. “You’ve all heard Albrecht trying to take what’s rightfully my brother’s,” the aetra announced, “but I know Mistica is not about to let Jasper down when he’s so ill!”
As Archie spoke, a large, ornate golden box was carried out and set in front of him. “If you have Lanturnacht spirit to spare, let Jasper know – let the whole circus know – that Albrecht will forever be resigned to second best!”
Bold words, but the crowd cheered.
Of course, Albrecht was watching the circus carefully. He decided to play Archie’s game and stood at the entrance to the Chamber of Evil, bowing each Mistican in as they wandered into the darkness. With a crooked smile on his face one of his ears would point to his own iron box.
“It’s not wise to support someone who’s already fallen,” Albrecht reasoned, “and though it’s sad to see, I do believe Jasper’s hour has come and gone. Give the Chamber of Evil your loyalty instead!”
Show Your Support!
Lanturnacht Loot is now open, but when you turn in your candy, you have a chance to choose to turn your candy into Albrecht, or Archie. What will be your choice?
Choose wisely...
Wishes and Gifts
Posted: October 19, 2012
“How's he doing?” Archie asked Gregory, who was still sitting at Jasper's bedside. The hat's worried frown was all the answer Archie needed.
Jasper was sprawled out across his bed, his eyes glazed over in fever. Sweat matted his feathers to his forehead, and coughs shook his whole body. He had hardly murmured a greeting when Archie entered the tent and didn't even comment on his new attire.
“Next time think twice before running outside in the middle of a hail storm in the middle of fall,” Archie lightly scolded.
“My...my circus...” wheezed Jasper.
“It's fine,” Archie promptly replied. “The crowds are thrilled, Valerie and Ivy are big hits, and Trick or Treating has begun without a hitch. Only...”
“Only...?” Jasper rasped, managing a glare through hazy eyes.
“Only...” Archie hesitated, not sure if he should present the news while Jasper was still so sick. “Only...Albrecht Von Emmerich is promoting the Chamber of Evil more than ever—he even has the shopkeepers on his side.” Again, he hesitated. “He...he's even calling himself the new king of Lanturnacht.”
“WHAT?!” Jasper cried, sitting bolt upright and nearly falling over again. His pillow was flung off the bed, and he nearly was on his wobbly feet before Archie caught him and urged him to relax.
“Jasper! You can barely even walk!” Archie protested.
“How...how dare he!” wheezed Jasper, feebly struggling. “This is war! I won't stand for...” His rant was cut short by a massive fit of coughing that left his chest heaving.
“I'll...I'll take care of it,” replied Archie, trying to soothe his brother's feathers. “You have to get better first before you can do anything.” Jasper grumbled, clearly not willing to wait. “You have nothing to worry about. Mistica will always support you—no one does Lanturnacht better than you.” He brushed aside any doubts he had to the contrary.
~*~*~*~*~*~
It still took a long time before Archie was able to convince Jasper to go back to sleep. Worry lines creased his forehead as he left the tent, wondering how he could support the circus with all of Albrecht's new tricks. But his thoughts quickly turned back to his brother; he had never been this sick a day in his life.
He returned to the few loyal guests who had remained after the big top closed, anxiously waiting for news on the ringmaster while they made idle conversation with Elijah and Skreetch.
*click above to send Jasper some get well wishes!*
“Jasper really needs our support right now,” Archie told them. “Get well cards, cobweb bouquets, ghostly givings...He needs to know we will always back him for Lanturnacht. Send him your wishes filled with the Lanturnacht spirit, and I'm sure it will really cheer him up.” Everyone nodded and agreed, hurrying off to make cards and handkerchief ghosts, telling their friends to do the same.
Clashing Kings
Posted: October 17, 2012
Archie left the big top feeling elated; he couldn't remember the last time the crowds had cheered so loudly for him. Everyone else was waiting outside.
“Magnificent performance,” Valerie practically purred.
“You be doing well,” added Belladonna with a curious smile.
“T-Thank you,” murmured Archie, a bit bashfully.
“Guess we were wrong about you,” said Skreetch. “Seems you got what it takes to head this thing up. But only as long as Jasper's out of it,” he added firmly.
“I...I understand.”
“So let's make this circus something Jasper can be proud to come back to!” concluded Elijah to which everyone cheered.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Meanwhile, Albrecht came out of his office in the Chamber of Evil with a wide, oily smile. He cleared his throat and announced, “What a pity it is to have Lanturnacht’s king feeble and sick. How can we have true terror and fright? These festivities need a leader—and I am happy to take charge.”
“There is much to get ready in time for the big night! I have gathered all the shopkeepers together and helped them restock with some sinister supplies of my own making! Just look at these new books Lissa is stocking, this gorgeous dress and costume from Lance, or the new pals for sale all around Mistica.”
“With the support of the local shopkeepers and the thriving Chamber of Evil, I am proud to take Jasper’s place!” Albrecht smiled broadly as dark shadows flickered from the chamber behind him. “I promise to lead Mistica into the best Lanturnacht ever! It will be filled with nightmares and screams! So forget that children’s circus and come to the Chamber of Evil—where the real Lanturnacht spirit resides!”
Don't forget to make your daily stops at the Pomme Tree, you could find this new seasonal beauty!
Let Lanturnacht... Begin!
Posted: October 15, 2012
Archie had spent most of the night thinking; it was apparent by the bags under his eyes. Belladonna's words had haunted him. He never before even tried to understand his brother's antics—they were beyond him. But as the moons began to set, Archie found himself reflecting on Lanturnacht itself.
“Sometimes...it's really fun to be scared,” he said to his top hat, trying to imagine it as Gregory to get into Jasper's mentality, not that he'd ever admit he was doing so. “That's what Jasper has been trying to do all this time...”
He looked at his reflection in the mirror of his tent—professional, like his father had taught him. It didn't reflect Lanturnacht at all. He didn't reflect Lanturnacht at all.
“If that's what this is all about...and that's what it's always been about. This circus is to make people happy,” Archie said, an edge of excitement in his tone. “Then things have to change right now. But I can't do it alone.”
With a flourish he tossed his hat aside and dug into the trunk in the corner of the tent. Outside, Skreetch and Elijah passed and exchanged looks over the loud noises coming from inside.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Twenty minutes before showtime, Archie emerged from his tent, surprising all of the circus staff. Gone was the red coat and top hat. Instead, he sported something his brother would be proud of. He looked nervous, as if he was uncertain about what anyone would think, but he was met with a round of applause instead. Archie fought back the usual nervousness that threatened to well up and met the applause with a humble bow.

Once inside the big top, Archie appeared before the expectant crowds with a puff of dark smoke and crackling of electricity. The spectators gasped in alarm, surprise and delight.

“Welcome, to Jasper's Circus!” greeted Archie with a sweep of his arm. “I am your host for tonight, Archibald Bozoni the Third! Tonight we have new horrors that will send you home screaming in delight!” Ominous music played, echoing from all corners of the tent.

“First, the moment you have been waiting for—Trick or Treat has begun! Visit users' profiles and click on their doorknobs to receive a wonderful treat...or a sinister trick!” Archie announced, finding his pacing as everyone appreciated his new-found confidence and spine-tingling dramatics. “But that's not all; I am pleased to introduce all of these new knockers, guaranteed to bring some terror into your Trick or Treat nights!”

Archie waited for the applause to die down before he continued, “Jasper's Circus is also proud to introduce our newest game—Ring Toss! It makes its debut tonight; try your hand and see what you may win. It promises to be fun for everyone!”

Once again, the crowd's cheering nearly drowned out the end of his announcement. Archie bowed simply, flourishing his new top hat, and vanished in a puff of smoke as mysteriously as he had entered.

~Mistic Team

Remember everyone, you can trick or treat every 30 mins, but it's only 20 if you are a champion. You also get to pick from the premium knockers as well! Might be a good time to invest in some champion dust, or dig in your safebox!

Chamber of Evil!
Posted: October 14, 2012

Today is also a very special day! It's CaptainZebra's birthday!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ZEBRA!
Head to Tribal Trades to get your hands on this spectacular necklace that the Chief has to offer...

And make sure to go sign her birthday card in Mistic Chat!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First off, Congratulations to Sicklymuffin for winning that enormous jackpot in the Raffle and for winning a Tasty Noir Butterfly Fish!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Albrecht von Emmerich stroked his moustache with his hand-like ears, an oily smile sliding up his face. With a flourish, he pulled away the shroud that curtained the entrance to his Chamber of Evil. “Introducing the new and improved, bigger and badder—I mean, bigger and better, Chamber of Evil!”
Albrecht
A flock of Battekins flew out of the upper windows as he spoke while a lone church bell chimed the hour in the distance. “I heard that many Misticans have been fretting away their time at Jasper's Circus. Bah! What a waste! If you want true terror, if you want to meet nightmares and hear screams of fright, my Chamber of Evil promises all the best of Lanturnacht! Enter if you dare. All those too cowardly to face spirits and spooks for my treasures can go to the kiddie rides and the circus.”

He smirked as the crowd shifted nervously around him. He rubbed his chin with his paw, gesturing with his ears. “In fact, I heard a delicious rumor...that the ring master is...sick.” His smile grew wider. “Without a ring master and only an incompetent Aetra in charge...well, let's just say I wouldn't expect the circus to be around much long.”

Albrecht turned and laughed, disappearing into the shadows. Those close heard his final murmur, “It's time for a new king of Lanturnacht.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Meanwhile, Archie approached Skreetch, Belladonna, Ivy, and Elijah after the night's show. Somehow it had been a success, but Archie still heard the mutterings as Misticans left wondering where Jasper was and commenting on how lackluster the circus was without him.
The circus crew was sitting around a bonfire in the center of the tent circle, sharing caramel pommes and talking in low voices. Archie approached and cleared his throat. It fell silent as four pairs of distrustful eyes turned to him. “Um...H-hi,” stammered Archie. “I...wanted to talk about t-tonight and...”
Ivy
 “Excuse me,” said Ivy, rising. “I'm going to retire for the evening. Today was a tough day.” Without another word, she brushed passed Archie.
“Ah, right...But I want to say...” Archie tried to start again.
Carnival Game
“My pets need fed,” interrupted Skreetch, who hurried off without looking back. Elijah also stood up, licking the last traces of caramel pomme off his claws and turned toward his tent. Archie heard him hiss under his breath. “Failure...”
 Archie slumped, his bill nearly touching his chest while he slouched down by the fire ring across from Belladonna. Neither spoke as Belladonna rolled several jagged, white pieces across the ground. Archie hoped they weren't bones. “You be afraid,” she stated, calmly.
She rose to her feet and beckoned Archie to her tent.
Fortune Teller
“I'm not!” protested Archie. His shoulders then dropped in resignation. “Yes, I am...”
“You don't be having trust; you don't be having risks. Without these you cannot be leading successfully,” he eyes met his directly. Archie found he couldn't turn away. “But most...you be not understanding.”
“Understanding?”
“You don't be understanding Lanturnacht. You don't be understanding what we be doing—what your brother be doing here,” she lectured. “You be wanting the circus to succeed, yes?”
“Yes!”
“Then look. Look hard. Be looking for what Lanturnacht really is. Be looking for the spirit of Lanturnacht itself.”
Will Archie be able to pull off Lanturnacht and make the circus a success? He certainly has a lot on his mind!
Terrifying pets and battle update!
Posted: October 13, 2012
The waters of the reef have been restored to calm tranquility. Beneath the calmness of the depths of the sea, lurks a terrifying anger that manifests in the new Terror Risylki and Caribyss!
Terror Risylki Terror Caribyss
They just may make good battle pets! Which leads us to our next update that you've all be waiting for...
BATTLE UPDATES!
Before we get to the most exciting news, I'd like to cover updates and changes first!
  • As many users may have noticed, defense was not as effective as was originally planned. The applied formula for defense has been adjusted and you should start seeing better payoffs for your defensive items
  • Note: Defense has always worked, just not as intended. Your pet profile does not and will not show your pet's current level of defense. When battle is more settled and where I'd like it, I'll adjust pet profiles for all the new changes that have occured
  • With the last update, there were a few new abilities added. Doing some testing with these new abilities made us aware that the damage for them scaled too well, meaning small adjustments in actual ability power meant huge differences in actual damage output. The applied formula here has also been adjusted and we will continue to monitor it.
  • With the above adjustments, we will also be "squishing" down some of the stats on weapons over the next few days. All your items will remain valuable relative to eachother, but I feel the gap between these level tiers is a bit too big and I think you can agree on that.
  • New opponents - See below!
Now, the exciting part!
We have also released a ton of new opponents! About 23,996 of them!
PvP is now officially open!
We have been working hard for a very long time to bring this feature to you. You may now take your battle-hardened pets and pit them against one another! Your pets must be at least level 5, but we recommend leveling to 14 for maximum fun!
To participate in PvP, simply go to the battle portal, click "PvP" and enter the username of the person, or the name of the pet you'd like to battle and send a challenge! When that user accepts your challenge, you'll get an alert and have that battle added to your "Current battles" list at the bottom of the battle portal. At this point, just take turns making your move until one of you is the victor.
Keep in mind, this is the first release of the PvP system to users. While it shares a lot of code with the original system, it is still a whole different beast and may have it's own quirks and bugs. So please, if you have suggestions or find bugs, report them in the new battle forum!
This is not the complete system. We have a lot of excitement involving PvP coming up in the next few days, once we've weeded out all the big bugs. Stay tuned!
RAFFLE!
Do you remember to play the raffle? Head on over to get your tickets to tonight's drawing, and you could not only win the Jackpot...
But a random Tasty fish as well for Caribyss creation!
A New Ringmaster
Posted: October 12, 2012
“A day or two…” Jasper muttered bitterly, glaring up at his brother from the confines of a bed that felt much too hot. On an end table beside him, Gregory grumbled and hissed, not at all pleased about being separated from Jasper’s head, but he couldn’t live on a sick host for long.
“Even Belladonna didn’t see this,” Archie reminded him, his fins twitching nervously, “You’re sicker than anyone guessed.”
Jasper huffed; it sounded like his throat was full of rocks. He mumbled something unintelligible, shifting around in his bed and kicking off his blankets. Archie sighed. Was his fever so bad it was affecting his mind?
“You…better not screw this up, Archie…” Jasper wheezed, sounding as though each word was a great effort.
Archie nodded. He knew what would happen if Jasper became well and found the circus any less successful than before, and he thought he knew how to draw a few more people in. As he left the tent, however, he saw Elijah scurrying off, probably to tell everyone else that Jasper was still sick.
Archie’s suspicions were confirmed during when he walked around the circus, ordering new prizes distributed.
As well as a few new food items for guests to find:
He got quite a few dark looks, and by the time he’d gotten back to his own tent, Archie was exhausted. No one trusted him, and why should they? He’d driven the circus to ruin. Hopefully, Jasper would get well quickly…
Catching Caribyss
Posted: October 12, 2012
It had taken days, but finally Dr. Erlenmeyer bid the oceanic zokuleon farewell and made her way to the sandy shore of Sango Reef. After closely studying the caribyss, she’d become convinced that they would fare far better if a few Misticans took them in, like they had so many other species. Even the rare kirui thrived with a little extra help!
But Asiya, the zokuleon, had set some very specific qualifications for anyone who wanted a caribyss, and there was work involved as well. Dr. Erlenmeyer hoped Misticans were up to the challenge.
---
Asiya tapped her pearl pensively. She still wasn’t completely sure a bunch of surface dwellers, new to the reef (well, a few of them were kelpies, she reminded herself), would be able to handle a creature like the caribyss. The doctor’s arguments had been sound, however, and so the zokuleon found herself setting up an area to receive visitors.
First, a prospective caribyss owner would need the space for another pet. Then, they’d try to catch a Tasty Fish – any would do, though the color of the fish itself determined the caribyss they would receive. With the fish being famously quick, Asiya knew it would take serious determination and patience to catch even one.
Asiya would then take the fish and lure in a caribyss, though again, more waiting was involved. A day or two, and then the lucky Mistican would get to take home their new friend. Whether it would be male or female was always a mystery, but Asiya had heard grumbling about the infamous GenderBug, should anyone be unhappy.
So the zokuleon settled down, telling herself it would probably be awhile before anyone came to claim a caribyss just yet.
Though your color is determined by your Tasty fish, Pandoria's magic still works. Check out the baby Caribyss!
One last edit! Due to the new pet, we've decided to put some discounted Coins in the credit shop! Need a space to bring a new pet home, now is your chance to get it at 20% off!
The Switch
Posted: October 11, 2012
“Leave me be, Archie; a few sneezes don’t mean I’m dying!” Jasper snapped, though for all his protesting, Archie could hear the scratch in his voice and saw how he couldn’t even breathe properly through his nose anymore.
“You have a fever Volcan would be jealous of!” The aetra insisted, waving a thermometer for emphasis (he still wasn’t sure how he’d even convinced Jasper to take his temperature). “Just rest for a day or two, and you can go back to being the king of Lanturnaucht again, alright?” He pleaded, though there was a slight edge to his voice. Archie still thought his brother’s head was too big for his shoulders.
Sad Jasper
Jasper huffed and sat down at his desk, looking around at his tent, thought it was really just to buy time. He sniffed and swallowed a cough, cursing the ache that had settled into his bones seemingly overnight. How could he perform like this? Maybe Archie was right…one day, Jasper decided, and he’d be up and about again anyway.
“Fine,” Jasper said finally, and Archie visibly relaxed. “Keep the circus running in my place, but don’t you go tossing out anything new! You have no idea how to excite a crowd,” he instructed.
Archie
Archie rolled his eyes but nodded. Of course Jasper would want the spotlight, and of course he had plans to expand the circus this Lanturnaucht. “Just rest,” he said with a sigh, and left Jasper to do just that.
Please make sure to read below about last night's downtime and the rollback we experienced.
We are back!
Posted: October 11, 2012
Welcome back Misticans!
Unfortunately, Mistic had a bit of a setback tonight, and our Server Admin has been working very hard to recover from it. Her words are below, and we are working to minimize the impact of this unfortunate rollback.
This was definitely not anyone's idea of a fun night, one error led to quite a few hours of trying to find a way to correct it and bring the site back up fully to where we were, but every attempt unfortunately failed.  We could spend the next few days attempting to recreate, but we felt that it was best to bring the site back up from the backup this morning so that we could move on without losing more time from our festivities and Lanturnacht fun.
Please accept my own apology, and my thanks for your patience and understanding. We will do whatever we can to make sure that this does not happen again.
Please visit the giveway for a small token and new pal.
To the users of Mistic.
For the past 24 hours, pandoria has been under attack by someone orsomeones using a distributed brute force multiple vector attack.
They  have not only been attempting to hack the website as you know it, by trying to brute force site logins, but they have also been trying to attack the core administrative capabilities of the server.
This evening, in an attempted to update the security measures on the server, and simultaneously improve security performance, I made a mistake. One SIMPLE but stupid mistake, and as a result, I over-wrote core sections of the Mistica database.
There are other backups, and they will be restored, however the issue is this... Those backups were made in the wee hours of the morning, and so don't reflect the days activity on the site. Forum postings, staff work, daily acitvities, pet transfers, etc.
As a result of this issue, I am modifying the site, so that it will dobackups every 4 hours, and thereby our oldest backup will never be too old, we are also going to work on a plan to store an off-server copy of the database that will never be more than 30 mins out of date.
I am extremely sorry for this inconvienience, please bear with us.
Round and Round...
Posted: October 9, 2012
Eerie, bell-like music was chiming across Jasper’s Circus, and even the most sugar-laden Mistican turned to see what this new attraction was. Jasper himself was standing in front of a huge, ornate carousel, all gold and red, decorated with intricate scrollwork. Figures of various charging and jumping creatures slowly made their way around the carousel as Jasper waited for people to gather around.
Jasper
He sniffled as he made a flourishing bow, once the curious crowd had gotten large enough for the showman’s taste. But nevertheless Jasper was grinning, and so was Gregory, though on him it was more of a hungry grimace.
“Welcome, everyone! As you can see, behind me is the newest addition to my circus…the Scary-Go-Round!” Jasper declared, framing the carousel with his black-feathered hands, “Every ride is a delight…or, maybe a little bit frightening, for some,” he added with a chuckle. Gregory snickered.
“So step up!” Jasper continued as a line started forming and the discordant music grew even louder, “It’s a ride unlike any other!”
Ivy, the Carousel's mistress beckons the bravest and boldest Misticans to hop on up for a ride.
"Who will be the first?"
Take care, the ride may not be all fun and fancy! Your pet could get sick, or scared... or have the time of their life! Willing to take a chance?
**You will notice that the map is no longer flash, this allows us to grow the circus and we hope you enjoy! We are looking at utilizing HTML5 in an update soon.**
~Mistic Team
We would also like to take this time to thank Pander for her work on the Carousel coding, and welcome her back to the staff team!
The Captain's Leave
Posted: October 9, 2012
The morning was beautiful – nothing but a clear blue sky spread out above him and calm waters rocking underneath. Captain Jack stood on the deck of the Black Pyre with the familiar feel of salt spraying in his face, one paw resting on the helm.
Jack Skillow
Even though the Captain was calm, his crew was like a kicked anthill, boots drumming on the deck and voices shouting over the cry of birds as they ran about, getting the ship ready to sail away. Soon, the anchor had been pulled up and black sails stretched out to catch the gentle wind.
Captain Jack grinned as the Black Pyre was carried off by the currents. His crew adjusted the sails and the Captain stood at the helm, and they were soon just a black speck on the water.
---
Above the Sea Witch’s dark cave, an oceanic gurahdi swam amongst the bright coral. All around him a rainbow of little fish swam about, mindless of the short spear he carried. Barra frowned. The fish were beginning to crowd the reef, not just this spot, eating more than Sango Reef could grow back and clouding the waters in schools.
He thought the surface-dwelling visitors might be able to help. After all, wouldn’t such fish make exotic pals? Without Monty around to eat them all, sending them to new homes seemed like the next best thing. Caribyss loved the fish as treats, but Monty had driven most of his kin away.
**
**-over 45 goodies to catch!
So step up and see if you can catch one of these lovely fish! They’re pretty quick though, so don’t get frustrated if success eludes you. And keep a hold on any tasty fish you do catch; you never know what else they could be used for…
Which brings us to our next big announcement, let's welcome our newest Mistic Pet, the Caribyss!
We have some interesting facts about these amazing new sea creatures in Mistic chat, but the biggest mystery is... how do you claim one?
Welcome, everyone! Thank you so much for helping rebuild my pets' tombstones. During this time to remember those who have gone before us, it soothes my heart to know that their lives will be remembered. So in honor of my pets and in the spirit of fall, Lanturnacht and all the goes bump in the night, at long last, Jasper's Circus is open for business!
A Lanturnacht Storm...
Posted: October 5, 2012
Rain pounded the canvas of the circus tent while thunder bolted across the sky. Winds caused the dead branches to wave like skeletal claws. Jasper stood inside the entrance of his tent, watching the deluge. No doubt that weather like this would hurt attendance when he opened his circus for Lanturnacht.
“It will stop soon, trust us,” said Gregory, as thunder threatened to drown him out.
Jasper
“It'd better,” grumbled the Jinx, but he couldn't shake a nagging feeling that something wasn't right. He knew he should get back to work—a few more preparations needed to be made to complete the new attractions for the circus. But the storm, one of the worst he had ever seen, was so powerful it was almost mesmerizing—it was impossible for him to look away.
CRACK! BOOM! Jasper pulled Gregory over his ears, trying to protect them from the deafening thunder. Hail then began to hammer the tents, trees, and ground. Jasper and Gregory both heard branches snapping under the force.
“Get inside before you get sick,” Gregory scolded.
Jasper acknowledged him with a nod, but as he started to turn another brilliant flash of lightning illuminated the night sky and silhouetted a cemetery on a nearby hillside that was being battered by a barrage of hail the size of Creepy Eyeballs. Jasper felt anxiety sweep around him, and he bolted for the cemetery.
“What are you doing?!” cried Gregory. “You're going to get us all killed!”
But Jasper didn't reply as he continued to run while hail bruised them both. He leapt over the rusty, wrought iron fence instead of bothering with the gate and hurried straight to the graves of his late Misticpals: Andrew, Izzy, and Edgar.
“N-no,” gasped Jasper as he dropped to his knees, rain water and sweat dripping off his face.
The hail had already mercilessly beaten down the tombstones, reducing them to piles of rubble. Jasper picked up a piece that still contained Andrew's name with his claws as a single tear threatened to overflow from his good eye. Memories of his time with them and their tragic deaths just a year ago came back to him full force as he sat in the cold mud.
“Jasper! Jasper!” shouted Gregory, trying to get his attention.
“It's...it's gone...”
“Don't you dare start getting depressed on us!” Gregory lectured. “Those are just markers—reminders! They can be remade.”
“They can be remade...” mumbled Jasper, hollowly, not even feeling the hail on his wings.
“Yes, they can be remade,” said Gregory, sternly. “And we're sure everyone will help out too.”
QUEST!
Oh no! It seems Jasper needs some help rebuilding his pals' tombstones. Remind Jasper of the enthusiasm for Lantunacht while he commemorates his late pals by seeking out new pieces of tombstones and putting them together.
Start by visiting Jasper and selecting which tombstone you would like to rebuild; you can select one a day. Then gather all the pieces as they appear randomly on the page. Once you have all five pieces, take them to King Blithe--he is very familiar with how to make these tombstones after last year. Bring the completed tombstone to Jasper so he can restore the graves and honor the lives of his friends.
Lanturnacht Tale Concludes
Posted: October 4, 2012
The third and last day of Jahzara's tale was upon her, and the fortune-teller did not disappoint. Wearing her usual knowing little smirk the woman sat once again, and as before, a small crowd had soon gathered around her. She was patient and waited until every straggler had settled down, then let silence fall for a few seconds, allowing anticipation to build.
"We come finally," she intoned, and it was as if her audience's ears had pricked up visibly, "to the very end of Lanturnaucht's tale. Jack, having frightened the malicious phantom who had attacked his dear sister, spoke before the entire village. In one hand he held a pommekin...but it was unlike anything seen before.
The inside glowed! The settlers marveled at the frightening thing as Jack began to explain. He had hollowed out the inside and placed within it a brightly burning candle, then on the face of the pommekin, carved a pair of evil looking eyes and a wide, jagged mouth. Light and a pommekin, the phantom's two fears, together in one!
Well, the villagers were astonished, and there was no argument: they set to work immediately, hollowing out pommekins, gathering candles, and carving the most horrific faces they could think of onto the fruits. Then they placed them around the outside of their village and around their homes, so the night glowed with the fitfully flickering lights of hundreds of small candles.
And that night...was silent. As was the day after." Jahzara smiled and she opened her mouth wide, allowing her voice to carry loudly over the people sitting around her. "The settlers had won! The phantoms never visited again, except to creep along the edges of the village, snarling but unable to cause any harm. The candle-filled pommekins were called Jack O' Lanterns in honor of their creator. Years later Darkwood Hollow would be tame enough for the lanterns to not be needed, and that, my dears, is how our beloved Lanturnaucht came about."
The storyteller stood abruptly, fixing her listeners with bright, knowing eyes. With a small chuckle Jahzara swept away, her skirts swirling about her ankles, and she was lost in the darkness once again.
Lanturnacht Tale continues...
Posted: October 3, 2012
Jahzara arranged herself once more by her archaic fire pit, pulling at and smoothing out her colorful, voluminous skirts as she sat. The woman was quite aware of the eyes glued to her as listeners began gathering again, all eager for the rest of Lanturnaucht’s tale. Jahzara fixed them all with a sly little smile and spoke.
Jahzara
“Last I left you,” she began, her low, hypnotic voice carrying easily, so every ear heard clearly, “our story had barely begun. Phantoms were terrorizing the innocent, new settlers of Darkwood Hollow. They had conquered their fear of the daylight and were not restricting their attacks to the moonlit hours anymore. Settlers found themselves pelted with pommes every hour of the day; it was relentless, merciless…yet no one had risen up to fight back.” Jahzara’s smile widened; she paused, letting her words bury themselves deeper into her audience’s minds.
“Then a young Mistican named Jill was struck hard on the head with a clockwork pomme. Her older brother, Jack, became enraged at the unprovoked attack. His sister was sweet, docile…and how dare anyone, he thundered, attack her!” Jahzara’s voice had risen powerfully, but then her volume suddenly dropped. Her listeners leaned in closer. “Impulsive and angry, Jack hefted a pommekin and hurled it at the cackling phantom with all his strength - and it drove the creature away!
The cause…well, no one could really understand it, but it seemed that the phantoms feared pommekins. Jack concocted a brilliant plan…and prepared to address the entire group of settlers - the lone, brave soul willing to stand up for the beaten down Misticans.” And Jahzara stopped there, much to her audience’s consternation. She simply smiled her serene, mysterious little smile at their protests and outbursts, standing gracefully and smoothing out her skirts once again, obviously preparing to leave. “I will be back with the ending tomorrow,” she said, “so use this time to think on what I have already said.” With that, Jahzara turned and swept away from the fire, swallowed by darkness.
A few goodies have reappeared in the Credit Shop in limited quantities. Take a look at some oldies but goodies!
Lanturnacht Tale
Posted: October 2, 2012
The reclusive Jahzara has decided to grace us Misticans with her eerie appearance once again to tell the story of Lanturnaucht. She settled down around an old fashioned fire pit, her eyes almost glowing in the fitful orange light. A small, knowing little smile played across her face as she watched the listeners gather around her.
Jahzara
“Once again,” she began in a low voice, almost a whisper, so everyone’s ears pricked and they leaned in closer, “I’ve come to regale you with the tale of Lanturnaucht - there are new faces from last year, after all…” She smiled slightly wider. “My telling will, I believe, be shorter this time, so mind you listen closely.” Her voice hadn’t raised at all, but something in her eyes said she meant every word as though it’d been shouted.
“Darkwood Hollow,” she continued in a louder voice that seemed to resound around her, enrapturing her audience, “was not always so tame. When the first settlers came here years ago, years before Lanturnaucht was even thought of, it was a treacherous place for those who…did not belong. Your forefathers faced many perils to make even our small part of the woods safe, and one of them brought about this celebration.
Phantoms were terrorizing the humble settlers, you see. Their home had not been abused in any manner but they seemed to find it…entertaining…to come out in the dead of night, when the air was chill and the forest floor was black, the moonlight blocked by the forest’s thick, leafy canopy. The phantoms would take handfuls of pommes from the trees and hurl them mercilessly…many of the settlers took injuries because of it, and they would wake every morning to see their small wooden cabins damaged - sometimes partly caved in - from the constant barrage of pommes. This only happened at night; the phantoms seemed to fear the sunrise, and for this the settlers were grateful.” Here Jahzara paused, her bright eyes fixing those before her with a hard, piercing stare to be sure they were paying attention.
“But soon the phantoms conquered the light,” she said in almost a whisper, and the eyes of her audience widened, “and the settlers found themselves trapped, facing the terrors both day and night.” She fell silent and her smirk deepened. “And here…is where I leave you, for now,” she said finally, chuckling in a knowing sort of way, confident her audience would come back for more, “I believe there is something else to announce, after all…”
An announcement indeed, try a few! Seems that the phantom Kirui have come to see about tormenting us this Lanturnacht!
