Warmer months had come and even the Diamond Glacier Domain was seeing the tiniest effects of spring. Queen Boreal stood out on her balcony, her dark face hard as a stone as she looked out at her kingdom with icy eyes.
A tiny glint suddenly sparked to life below her. Frowning, Boreal leaned forward for a better look, eyes narrowed against the freezing wind slapping her face. Something wasn’t right…
The queen turned and made her way through the grand halls of her austere palace and down winding stairs until she was standing in her own courtyard. Outside the spiked, icy gate surrounding the castle Queen Boreal could see a procession of Kohals, laden with bags as usual, but one stood out. Its coal-black hide was instead a bright, shimmering blue, and it was carrying something in its mouth that shone.
Full of indignation Queen Boreal shouted down two Wintercursed Mandoran guards to escort the odd Kohal out of her kingdom, and they ran to obey her. But the thought struck the queen that if one Kohal had rebelled – because forsaking uniformity was just that – that surely more were planning the same thing!
And so the queen ordered the banishment of a large portion of her Kohals, intending to make more, and maybe they would be more loyal this time around…
Meanwhile in the warmer Darkwood Hollow, Feron was watching over her little helpers with her usual scowl when one of the Foer came running up a root, holding something like a diamond.
Feron blinked, baffled by the crystal toadstool’s presence. “And did that just pop up?” The spirit inquired, receiving an energetic nod in answer. “Hmm…magic at work, no doubt,” Feron reasoned, “Well, be sure to care for them!”
Feron’s Crystallized Toadstool is for sale in her shop, and it seems that it has some unusual properties! Every month it will turn any Kohal who eats it into a color corresponding with that month’s birthstone. And with Queen Boreal’s temper, there may be quite a few Kohals out there waiting to be picked up…
