The Hungry Hippalos Game has been Revamped!
A wider variety of food will be asked for, as well as shorter time periods before they are hungry again. And as you can see, our Hippalos received a much needed makeover! 

These hippalos like it all! Pommes, Lanturnacht candy, Sugar rats...
They'll eat ANYTHING! Let's get the competition going!

What a bunch of crybabies! These Hippalos are depending on you to fulfill their wishes and bring them food and occasionally other items to make them happy. And if you help, you will be rewarded!

And while you are feeding, you may occasionally be awarded with MC bonuses! So keep checking back, they get hungry with a WIDE variety of food every 15-25 mins after being fed!


Join in the fun, you'll be competing against your fellow Misticans for top honors each week. You'll have 7 days to feed and contribute to the Hippalo's happiness before the tallies start again.
 The top 3 Hippalo samaritans will earn a shiny trophy for your profile, as well as a coveted Hippalo of their very own!

We've recieved another update on Pandoria's training!
Cheer her on in the updates, and we'll give out 3 more Ostara Ratties!

TNT Stinks, don't you agree Mistica?

Pandoria is being exposed to the smell of TNT for the first time! It is working in a square Plexiglas cage with a single open hole in the floor containing TNT beneath it. Training through two small sessions per day, the rat will now learn to approach the hole and pause for five seconds, indicating to the trainer that Pandoria smells TNT and identifies its odor. The trainer teaches Pandoria to approach the hole, using the click sound to signal a correct response that lets Pandoria know that it has earned a reward.

Pandoria’s trainer sets targets based on the rat’s current performance. As Pandoria learns to get closer to the hole, the trainer waits until it gets even closer before clicking the next time. In scientific terms, this process is called “shaping,” meaning that a new response is taught by breaking up the task into small, easy to learn steps, much like how you learned to tie your shoe. After learning to put its nose in the hole, Pandoria has to pause over the TNT for progressively longer periods of time before being rewarded. As soon as Pandoria learns to consistently pause over TNT for five seconds, it will be ready for the next stage of training.

Don’t worry! Pandoria is in no danger. The amount of TNT used during training is extremely small and poses no threat to the rat. In addition, the almost negligible amount of TNT used ensures that Pandoria is learning to recognize and indicate event faint traces of its odor, which is crucial in an actual minefield.

There has also been talk of Apopo starting to train these amazing rats to aid in finding people amid rubble in various disasters. Their smell is even better than trained canines! How exciting is that?

The sleepy hamlet of Rordon has been taken over by a veritable army of Znakes in their annual migration frenzy and they're overrunning all of Mistica! Two foundations have sprung up to combat this flood of slithery little pals and it looks like they're recruiting.

Rougarou’s eyes shot open. He had thought it was a dream, but there was no mistaking the growing cacophony that echoed down the halls of the resort. He threw a pillow over his ears, but even then the strumming of a banjo mixed with the shrill of a harmonica and whining of an accordion leaked through.
 
In the extended cafe off of the balcony of the Bamboo Beach Resort, Benni and a few of his friends played near the concessions as tourists listened while enjoying tropical drinks. Benni’s eyes swept the crowd, resting on Harmony who was sitting at one of the tables up front.
 
“Now’s the time,” thought Benni. With the long-lost sheet music propped up in front of him, he began to sing.

There’s a song in my head; I just gotta sing.
Like a luvsquito, my heart has wings.
It’s all for you, what I do in the bayou,
My dearest---

Without warning, Benni’s solo was interrupted by a loud roar as Rougarou burst in. “ENOUGH!” With a mighty sweep of his massive paws. Rougarou sent tables flying, overturned potted palms, and people panicking. In under a minute, the entire room was cleared out. All Benni could do was gape as Rougarou panted a few times, then leaped off the balcony himself, heading back to the peace and quiet of the swamp.

“Did he...have pillows stuffed in his ears?” wondered Harmony as she righted a chair.

Benni’s shoulders slumped, dejected. His brilliant confession had been cut off at it’s climax. “Harmony...I’m...I’m so sorry.”

“Sorry? Don’t apologize! I had a great time,” Harmony answered with a smile. “I really liked the music, and the resort was just the vacation I needed. I look forward to next year.”

“Right...right. Next year,” Benni forced himself to mirror her smile. Next time...next time he’d be able to tell her...

Rougarou sprawled out across the plush mattress of the bamboo bed. A gorgeous sunset filtered through the blinds, reflected off of the pristine ocean. A coconut with a straw rested on a night stand just within arms reach. Besides the murmuring of the surf and the occasional cry of a sandy or two, it was blissfully quiet.

“I could get used to this,” murmured Rougarou as he drifted off asleep.

Benni waved farewell to several Revelry partiers as they finished exchanging juggling balls and beads. He was about to take a break, when Maury suddenly crash landed in front of him.
 
“Maury! I didn’t know you participated in Revelry too!” exclaimed Benni has he helped the phelocan to his feet.

“It’s not Revelry I came here for. I’ve got a letter for you,” replied Maury, pulled an envelope out of his satchel. “It looks pretty important.”

Curious, Benni clipped off the end of the envelope, pulled out the letter inside, and quickly skimmed it. “Maury! This is wonderful! I’ve been invited to perform at the Bamboo Beach Resort this year!”

“Congratulations!”

“And look, an extra ticket!” Benni waved it around. “I can invite Harmony!” He did his best not to trip over himself in his excitement as he fumbled for pen and paper to write to her. “I hope she can make it; this is going to be great! I even know exactly what song I’m going to play!” He handed off his letter to Maury. “Make sure she gets this as soon as possible, okay?”

“I’ll stake my reputation as Mistica’s best mail carrier on it,” promised Maury. He tucked the letter into his satchel and took off, narrowly missing a low-hanging branch as he did so.

Pandoria, spurred on by all your encouragement, has passed Clicker Training with FLYING COLORS!

Now it'll be time for her to pick a specialty. Either TB or Mine Detection. We originally chose mine detection, but it's up to Pandoria to show what she has an affinity for. Either way, she'll be making a difference in the world!

"Pandoria is now ready to specialize and needs your help to decide, Mistica! She has been doing very well so far and is now all set to move to some real sniffer training. To streamline the training process and to ensure that Pandoria builds an ‘expertise’ in one specific scent; it is important to only focus on one going forward. The next stages will introduce the smell of TNT or of tuberculosis (TB) to Pandoria and her detection behavior, training scenario, and eventually the area of operation will be shaped accordingly to the chosen scent. "

Makoto was bowled over by what seemed to be a sandstorm that had whipped up across the beach. He picked himself up carefully, brushing the sand off of his whiskers, and found himself to be looking down the snout of Rougarou with Benni riding on his massive shoulders.

“Can...I help you?” Makoto nervously asked.

“Yes! You can give me back my song!” demanded Benni.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” replied Makoto with all the charm of a znake oil salesman. “Hey! Stop that!”


Rougarou didn’t even bother listening. He was too busy digging through all of Makoto’s loot, tossing fish and seashells down the beach as he rooted around, his dark nose twitching.

“I said stop it! Who do you think you are?!” demanded Makoto, pulling on Rougarou’s tail to try to get him to stop. But one snap was all it took for Makoto to back pedal with a small whimper.

“I found it!” Rougarou said, pulling out a small pile of sheet music before handing it over to Benni.
 
“It is! This is my song!” exclaimed Benni with tears in his eyes. “Thank you! Thank you so much!” He then turned to Makoto and said rather icily. “No thanks to you.”

“You can’t prove anything,” retorted Makoto.

“I’d better get peace and quiet after this,” said Rougarou.

“Right, the Bamboo Beach Resort. I haven’t forgotten,” promised Benni.

The Rougarou is ready for an extended stay at the Bamboo Beach Resort. Have you been by for your daily visit?

Quick Coding Note-  Editing a title in the forums will no longer result in the loss of 10 characters. 35 character limit is now standard when creating OR editing a board! 

“BENNI!”  A voice shook the swamp, quickly followed by the stomping and splashng of two pairs of (very disgruntled) paws.  Black fur stood on end and ears pressed against his head, the Rougarou stormed to the source of the music that had so rudely awoken him.  The door was no match for his claws, and with a smash he burst into Benni’s humble abode.


“BENNI, I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU LAST YE-”  The Rougarou froze, jaw hanging open, as he took in the scene before him.  Benni was slumped in the corner, accordion in claw and a face covered in stubble (how was that even possible?), surrounded by mostly blank sheets of paper dotted with hastily scribbled (and later scratched-out) notes.

“Benni, what is… what is this?  You look… worse than you sound.”

The crawfish looked up with eyes clouded by tears.  “My music, Harmony, it’s….”  His sentence was cut off by sobbing.

“Benni, come on, knock it off.  What’s wrong?”  He took Benni by the shoulders and shook him.  “Snap out of it!”

“My music, it’s… gone.  Stolen.  I don’t know.”  The playing grew louder.

The Rougarou grimaced and covered his ears.  “So this is why you’re playing so loud?” he half-shouted.

A nod was his only reply.

The beast rolled his eyes.  “Look, so if you were to… get it back, this would stop?”

Benni nodded, and, with a glimmer of hope in his eyes, finally put down his accordion and looked at the Rougarou.  “Would you… maybe… help me?  I promise if you do I’ll give you a free vacation at the Bamboo Resort!”

   

“...A quiet vacation?”

“Of course.”

The Rougarou sighed.  “Fine.  Out of my way.”  With a single claw he pushed Benni to the side and shoved his massive snout to the ground, sniffing for a clue.  It didn’t take long before he came upon a very familiar, very fishy scent….

Click goes the food reward.
 

Pandoria has officially begun her training! She will now learn that a click sound signals that she has earned food! Clickers are widely used in animal training because the click sound bridges the gap between the correct response and the reward. This means that Pandoria will continue to work knowing that the trainer will signal when she is correct. This method helps the animals rapidly identify the precise behavior that will obtain a reward and adapt as quickly as possible. Clicker training takes place in special glass-walled cages which have single holes for administering food rewards.

Still tossing Revelry Trinkets? There are some nifty new crowns to collect!

There is still one thing that the clattering of beads and sounds of merriment cannot drown out.  The sad sounds of Benni’s accordion grow louder with every day that the aching of his heart continues.  While many Misticans have simply grown accustomed to the music and do their best to drown it out with their own songs and laughter, there is one who still cannot stand the sound of Benni’s playing.

Grumbling and growling has been reported in the depths of the swamp, almost as if something is slowly beginning to awaken….

Take note that the games page now has a Revelry link at the top of the page that looks like this:

That will take you to the Revelry Quest, where you can turn in items for points. Click on Benni in the quest to access the shop to spend your points. There's a yummy new cupcake waiting in there!

Questing limits have also been reduced. Now you only have a 5 min wait, instead of 15 mins in between your quests!
