| lichen says Oh, no.your poor cat...geez, losing a pet is never easy, especially one so loved. I know when one of my furry/scaly babies go the grief will be overwhelming as they literally mean the world to me. I really hope that things start looking up on your end — it really sounds like you could use a turn of good luck right about now. Maybe when you’re up to it, try doing something in their honor. Like when my grandma passed a few years back it was very hard, my life was at very turbulent point and her passing seemed like the final straw in a litany of disheartening events. Life was difficult for a long time afterwards, but it became better once I burned off most my raw grief and found something to works towards in her memory (my fish and wildlife degree, because always supported and believed in my career choice even when I had my own doubts. So, yeah may be finding some project/goal like that can help you when your ready? I don’t know, grief is diffent for everyone and it never does truly goes away but it does get better. Just keep your chin up, okay? And never be afraid to ask for help if you think you need it, I’m certain that there are people who would gladly help share your burden when you need it most. And if working at a zoo interests you, but you don’t want the professional commitment just yet you could see if your local place has volunteering opportunities. These positions usually deal more with answering zoo guests questions and providing info about the animals rather than working directly with zoo animals themselves (at least in my experience rsearchering urban zoos, rural zoos may be more under staffed and could have opportunities to help out in food prep, and stuff like that). But anyway, volunteering could be a fun way to help out your local zoo while also getting the chance to get a glimpse behind the scenes and getting to know some of the people (and maybe animals) that work there! How’s school been for you this term — any interesting projects? |

If you ever need some one to talk to about how you're coping (or just about life in general) or if there's anything else I can provide please, remember that I'll be around to listen, okay? As for the internship, I'm applying for a fairly competitive independent research position at the city zoo so, honestly I wouldn't be too surprised if they pass over my resume as there's not much hands-on experience currently on it and since it's also my first time applying at the organization--sometimes these places reject first-time applicants simply to test their tenacity and seriousness about working there. Anyways, my fingers are crossed but I also definitely have a couple backup plans in my pocket waiting to be pursued. You have any plans for spring/break?--I've still got to stick around the city for the next few weeks in case the zoo calls me back but I'm definitely going to be outside enjoying the returning sunshine! |
