Pet Profile
Leon always felt a little sorry for Queen Boreal, who invariably seemed to get left out of Mistmas celebrations. Many a year when Boreal sent the other Kohals away to live with someone else, Leon stayed behind to keep her company, and made her little presents out of snow for Mistmas.
One year, when all of Mistica seemed especially quiet, and Queen Boreal seemed especially sad, one of the Kohals discovered an opalescent toadstool. Glowing like Aurelius himself, that Kohal led all the others away to go and find new homes. For once, Leon felt a longing to also leave, to see what was outside the Diamond Glacier Domain. He shuffled away from the group of Kohals, towards Queen Boreal's throne room.
She was standing just around the corner, and she seemed to be satisfied, as though it pleased her that her Kohals had become so independent. Leon had long suspected that this was the case.
"My Queen..?" he asked, turning to look her in the eyes, wondering how to put what he was feeling into words.
"If you wish to go, Leon, you may. I give my permission." Her voice was very understanding, her face unusually kind, almost warm, as she gestured towards the corridor he'd just come from.
"But what about you, my Queen?"
"Oh, don't worry about me, I'll manage." she waved her arm dismissively. Her face became sharp and cold again.
"Thank you my Queen, I'll be sorry to leave you. I promise I'll come back to visit you every Mistmas." Leon bowed his rocky head, then turned to leave.
"Wait." Queen Boreal called him back, "That reminds me. It's a bit early for Mistmas presents, but if you're going now..." she handed something over to the Kohal. "You've always been so kind to me, giving me presents every year... so I decided to make a present for you." her face softened once again. "Do you like it?" she added hesitantly. Queen Boreal had very little experience with giving presents.
Leon studied the little creature who would become his constant companion - a small living rock, draped with a scarf akin to Leon's own ribbon.
"Thank you, my Queen. It is a lovely gift, and I will treasure it always. Goodbye." Leon lingered in the doorway for a few seconds, then left, to discover the world outside.
"Goodbye!" Queen Boreal called out after him.
