Thin lips - mine - stretched into a smile. I failed to see dismay and heartbreak pool in my father's eyes; my thoughts were selfishly turned away from him and already in another world.

A star.
My young imagination could not wrap around such a future. At least, not properly. What I believed to be the truth was far from it - a beautiful, sleek and serpentine body sashaying through stardust as the beginnings of a new star formed behind it, mingling with other space matter as the ball of gas began to properly form. In my mind, that would be me in all my glory, a figure that others of my planet would gaze upon in wild wonder and admiration whenever I'd descend from the heavens.
Looking back, I wish it were all that easy. If I could choose the innocence of youth over responsibilities given to me by law... well, normally I would pick the former. However, I did neither. Instead, I chose to escape my world altogether and fall into another. I would be safe, at least for a while. Until they came to drag me back.
Five Earth years have passed since I made my decision to abandon home.

Will they actually come, you say?
Oh, yes. I'm sure they will. I'm simply not sure when. But... I do hope they'll wait a bit longer. I'd like to live a bit before being terminated.
