*UNDER CONSTRUCTION SINCE TRANSFORMATION**
Damis
I come from a long line of coal miners, so please excuse the dusting around me that makes me this color. I think, if I was polished, I would gleam ruby red. My mother decided based on my coloring that Damis was a great name, a strong name that represented our family heritage of working in the mines. One day, I will become something great. I may seem a bit rough around the edges, but I have a heart of stone, erm well rock, I guess. Until then, I am just working in the mines until I can find my chance to show everyone how bright I can shine.
was a normal Kohal, until the salt water of the Sango Reef washed him clean
collects gems, but not rubies and some garnets (anything red)
used to collect pieces of coal and pet rocks when younger
however made the switch to collecting gems when he found his first one mining
is afraid of water and getting dirty
also dislikes cold, dark spaces
Damis is Arabic for dark-skinned warrior
his parents managed to escape Boreal's clutches, but instead had to mine coal
he has a healthy fear of Queen Boreal
the day he became "diseased" was the day his parents felt most relieved, because it meant that Boreal would not try to bring him back
Damis is a July Kohal, but he wasn’t always that way. Like his parents, he was born a normal ordinary Kohal with seemingly not much potential. However, his parents tried their best to raise Damis so that he would be strong and brave. Thus, they gave him his name in hopes of inspiring such. Because his parents had escaped the evil clutches of Queen Boreal, they were forced to take up a job in a coal mine to support themselves. Damis soon followed that career path. Though, it became grueling work that he detested very much.
To pass the time and to stifle some of the boredom, Damis took up collecting odd shaped pieces of coal and rock. His collection grew quite big as he attempted to fill the void that was brought on by the life of a mundane coal miner. But he soon gave it up, when one day, among the rubble of soot and ash, he found a sparkling stone. A diamond! He discovered. And thus, he began to collect any gemstones he could find. Still, his favorite, a bright red ruby, alluded him for the longest time. One day, when walking along the beach near Sango Reef, a crimson jewel caught his eye. At last, he had found a ruby! Diving into the icy waters, he attempted to retrieve it, but came up empty handed. However, he discovered that the salt of the sea had washed away the charcoal from his body and revealed a July Kohal underneath.
Description: Damis is a July Kohal, so his whole body is made up of rubies, though it has the same strength of that of a diamond. He prides himself in his appearance, and he typically likes to keep himself well polished and clean of any debris. If he can help it, not a speck of dirt will be seen on his crimson-person. As a result, his colorless crystal eyes are not something he is fond of, when it comes to looks. He dislikes that in the wrong light, they look like two pieces of coal staring up at you. Damis' ribbon, the pride of joy of any Kohal, is the color of garnet with little gems sewn in, rather than the typical pinkish hue that accompanies most July Kohal.
Personality: Damis can be seen as a bit of a neat freak. He hates dirt and grime so much that he has been spotted, once or twice, attempting to clean away at the dirt floor of the Quarry. He is especially not fond of any rubble on his person, and will spend hours making sure that not a spot of dust is on him. As a result, he is often teased by his fellow coal miners, for it. However, Damis takes it in stride, and is always a good sport about it. And surprisingly, his work rarely suffers for it! This is due to the fact that Damis considers himself a Kohal of principal, and therefore, works himself to his limits. Above all, he loathes letting people down.
Strengths: This Kohal considers cleanliness one of his biggest strengths. He practices the motto, "cleanliness is not to godliness" perhaps a little too thoroughly. And he takes especial pride in making sure that everything has a place and is in its place. Another one of Damis' strengths is his dependability. He will always be there for anyone who asks, and never will he break a promise. He also has a strong moral compass that allows him to live up to his name. He is a true champion of the people, and will stick up for anyone that is oppressed. So much so, that it is his goal to one day free all the remaining Kohals from Queen Boreal's icy clutches.
Weaknesses: While Damis may consider it a strength, his cleanliness also is a weakness. He will often spend the day away cleaning, if he is allowed. Damis also is a bit of a glutton when it comes to collecting things. Even as a child, he had a problem with bringing home too many pieces of coal and then rocks. On many occasions, the purse he would use to carry them in would burst at the seams and have to be repaired. Even now that he is older, he still will often take on more than he can handle. But he always attempts to follow through.
Biography: Damis was lucky that he never had to live under Queen Boreal’s rule. His parents, though ordinary Kohal, managed to escape her icy clutches before he was born. As a result, while his parents lived in constant fear of retribution, they tried to make his childhood as happy as possible. As possible as it could be for two coal miners that is.
As soon as he came of age, he got a job at the same mine that his parents worked at, to help provide for the family. There, he discovered he had a love of collecting minerals that evolved from first coal to rocks and then finally to collecting gemstones. He loved very much, polishing them off and wearing away any nicks to his precious stones. His favorite of all, was the ruby, which he took for high and low, to no avail.
One day! however, he was walking along the beach separating Blizzard Realm and Sang Reef, looking stones that sometimes washed up there, when something caught his eye! It was a large ruby sitting at the bottom of the tide. Diving into the foamy sea, he clawed and struggled against the current to get his new-found treasure. Alas, he managed to snag it and return to land, quite content. But something was amiss…
Damis' charcoal pelt began to drip off of him back into the water, threatening to turn him into nothing. But to his surprise, a vibrant red began to show through as the salt water carried his smudged body away. Magically, he had turned into a gemstone! Damis had become a July Kohal, right before his very eyes.
To this day, Damis still collects gemstones, though, he is always cautious about it, in fear of turning once more. However, he has yet to never set a paw on another red stone. Call it a superstition, if you will. He calls it being wise.
Short Story:
I come from a long line of coal miners, so please excuse the soot that makes me this color. I used to be caked in the stuff. It covered me from head to toe. You couldn’t see the ruby red I am now underneath. It is why my mother to decide that based on my coloring, Damis was a great name. A strong name, that represented our family heritage, of working in the mines, she said. One day, I will become something great. I may seem a bit rough around the edges, but I have a heart of stone. Until then, I am just working in the mines until I can find my change to show everyone how bright I can shine. And already, I am shining a little bit brighter.
