The rain pounded down on the cold pavement, giving off an almost imperceptible hum of energy as it hit the ground and dissipated into a short-lived wisp of fog. Not a living soul was outside on a day like this, except those with no shelter to run to. The boy was one of them. The boy with wings that no one could see.
He huddled under them, shivering as the cold seeped into his skin, deep into his soul. He was utterly miserable. He belonged in the sky, but the sky was angry, and had punished him to the ground.
