Personality:
Vance is a relatively lonely person, who keeps to himself in most situations. He's prone to depression, due to his parents constant fighting. He has tried to kill himself several times, but Yasmin has stopped him at every instance. He enjoys joking and complimenting Yasmin, for she is his only friend. He is also passionate, for both music and Yasmin. He'd do anything for her, even to the point of risking his life. The only thing he cares about almost as much as Yasmin is his violin, for he claims it was the last gift he received from his parents that was wrapped with love. He spends many hours composing or simply working with his violin. It doesn't matter the time of day, he's practicing and trying distract himself through the music. He is also clumsy, and often drops things or accidentally hurts others. He is self conscience, believing that everything he does is wrong and often blames himself for things that aren't his fault. This is due to believing this issues his parents are due to him. He's a insightful person, for even at a young age, he is able to understand complex relationship issues and problems that people have.
Physical Description:
As a child, Vance was incredibly short and deathly thin, due to being malnourished by his unloving parents. They could care less if he ate well, if even at all. As a result, his ones became brittle and he was ordered to stay in the house as much as possible by his mother, in order to keep him safe. His eyes also appeared bigger when he was smaller, due to him having a tiny, circular face. His hair was originally deep chocolate in color, but since his mother felt it didn't suit her pale child, she had it dyed when he was three. His bangs were also much longer during his childhood, making his forehead disappear. Vance then grew to be a tall and skinny fellow with tiny shoulders, measuring in at 6'3 and weighing only 120 pounds. His legs became long and lanky, which makes up most of his height. As he aged his eyes seemed to grow tinier, due to his face elongating, they remained dark brown but a hint of gold shown through in the center. His sky blue hair went from a mop to spiked up only on the left side of his head, leaving short bangs to hang loosely over his, now exposed, slightly large forehead. He has a medium sized nose that accents his face and has small, baby lips. He is pale skinned and has long thin fingers that are often covered with Rosin.
Attire:
Vance wears a simple dark blue suit with a large breast pocket with a treble cleft on it. He dresses in navy dress pants followed by patchy, old blue dress shoes with a small heel, that were hand me downs from his father. He can barely fit into them due to his tiny feet. In his right hand, he carries his worn and battered violin case. On his left index finger he wears a ring with his family crest on it, a dragon like beast with a symbol for hope in the middle. He says it brings him good luck and never leaves home without it.
Relationships:
Yasmin:
Vance's childhood friend and crush. At first, he was too shy to talk to her, but eventually he got over it. The two share a loving bond, secretly meeting behind their parents' backs to kindle their relationship. Her dominating personality often leads to Vance beileveing his interests and ideas are unimportant, but he doesn't mind. As long as Yasmin is happy, he is happy. He thinks of her as nothing but perfection, and often compliments her body, beautiful face and charm. Her enjoys her mischievous side and loves her willingness to break the rules to have fun, since he cannot find the confidence to do so himself. He is completely loyal to her, and seeks out no other females other than her. He hopes to one day marry her.
Klara:
Vance's mother is a cruel woman, but loves Vance more than anything. The only thing that prevents her from loving him is that he is Trevor's child. She despises the idea of such a hulking and arrogant man raising her son. As a result, she often pretends Vance doesn't exist. As he aged though, she started to ignore him less and less, but still keeps her distance. She knows that if he were to learn about her past, he would surely shun her. Klara hopes to one day divulge the secrets of her past and the reasoning behind marrying a man she clearly loathes, to her treasured son. As a token of good will, she had a magic violin made to give to him on his fourth birthday. She thought if he was under the impression it was a gift from both his parents, he would act less sullen and liven up. It worked for a time, but fighting with her husband led him to go under a spell of sadness. Once he met Yasmin, she would leave the back door unlocked so he could meet her. She hopes that Yasmin can restore the happiness she was unable to provide for her son.
Trevor:
Trevor is Vance's reluctant father. He never wished for his son to be born. His birth was what he claims was a "terrible accident" caused due to the lusting between Klara and himself. He laments greatly due to having to marry Klara as a result of her pregnancy. He wishes in his heart he had won over Elise and not let her slip into the hands of Ralph. He often scowls at his son since he cannot handle him being the offspring of someone other than Elise. He has removed himself from his son's life, giving little input on decisions regarding him and barely talks to him. He doesn't care what happens to his son or how he reacts to his cruelty. In his mind, Vance should have never been born. He tries to keep him away from Yasmin because she reminds him too much of her mother, Elise. She is a cruel reminder of the mistake he made in courting her. He refuses to let his son see Yasmin and tries to lock him in his room to prevent interaction between the two. He wishes that his son would just disappear.
Jasmine:
Vance has little interaction with his cousin. He feels she gets in the way of his relationship with Yasmin and therefore he resents her. She is a constant reminder of his father, due to her having similar eyes of both his father and uncle. He finds every excuse to avoid her, in order to evade the hurtful memories and hauntings his father's eyes bring him.
Story:
I was but seven years old when I, Vance Auspeare, learned the truth about my parents.
I was the mistake my parents didn't want to remember. Hence, I understood their reasoning for forgetting I was there. I was the byproduct of lust, not love, and that made all the difference to me.
My mother, Klara, was a stern and controlling woman. She would often scream at my father, for she knew that she was not the one he wanted. I knew fairly well that they were not in love, for they only had to be briefly in order to bring me into the world.
My father, Trevor Auspeare, greatly resented not expressing his intense romantic feelings for the now Elise Dukni. Every time he looked at me, I felt the hatred, because I was not Elise's child. That loathing was more than I could bear.
When my parents fought, I'd hide away and play my violin. It was the only thing I had and needed. Its soothing and melodic noises calmed my shaking and depressed form. I could live again in the sounds of the masterful instrument. It made me forgot the constant hunger. I couldn't understand why my parents refused to feed me. Was I a bad child? The answer must have been yes, for what other reason could they have for refusing to nourish their only son.
I knew what was left of their shattered relationship was ending, there was no possible way they could ever reassemble the scattered pieces.
My father could never get over his past love nor could my mother ever truly love him, for he was not the one she wanted either. Yet, she settled for him because she felt she had no other choice. I was a last resort and a mistake.
In their eyes, I must be nonexistent, for I can see no other reason for them to ignore or forget to feed me.
Books became my teachers and the violin, my safe haven. I needed nothing else to make myself a blissful child. The knowledge of books and the pleasant sophistication of the noble pine instrument were that was necessary.
Despite the tiredness and issues moving, I trudged on, for then I had faith that somehow I would be alright in the end. The music reassured me, for it was a better guardian than my "parents" could ever be.
But my bliss would not last, for being an Auspeare's offspring always meant that trouble was just beyond the horizon.
One day, when I wandered to the park alone, I met the most peculiar but lovely soul in all the world. Playing my violin, as I usually did that one spring day, I was enjoying myself.
Until my concentration was broken by the voice of an angel. She was stunning, her dark cream hair waved in the wind and her brown-gray eyes seemed to smile at me as she ran to the swings that stood beside me.
I flinched, my heart was running a mile a minute: I had decided to play my instrument to slow my breathing.
"That sounds pretty. What's your name" the goddess had asked.
I had smiled and tried to keep cool, "My name is Vance Auspeare."
I held my hand out to shake hers.
"I'm Yazmin Dukni" she smiled as she accepted my hand in hers.
My smile instantly shattered, this was the offspring of Elise and Ralph. I felt nothing though, no fear, as I should have. All I had felt at that moment was bliss, for this amazing girl had graced me with her presence.
But it was short lived because my cousin, Jasmine Auspeare, came over and snatched Yasmin from me.
I had felt heartbroken, I knew all this love I felt for her would never last. But strangely, it did.
I was now seventeen years old, ten years had come and gone, but my love for Yasmin burned just as brightly as it had when I fell in love with her ten years prior.
We'd meet every night in the same playground where we had met, chatting and getting to know one another further.
I'd play many symphonies I had composed for her, and she'd smile every time I'd use my bow.
That smile proved to me that our love was mutual. But the same smile also reminded me that our love would never be.
Our warring parents did not approve of us being together and henceforth tried in any way they could to keep us apart. They didn't understand the connection we shared, music brought us together.
However, the meetings were brief now, because my cousin and Yasmin had other duties to attend to.
They were both born with the innate ability to see and hear demons who tried to enter our realm. It was their mission to protect those of us who couldn't see them.
Little did she know that I too could see the monsters, and that my violin sometimes was the reason that she won her battles. I could never do that to her though, it would harm her pride, and her pride was the only thing she adored more than me.
The monsters hated music, for it was a sign of life. So secretly, I'd follow my beloved and my cousin on a mission and then proceed to hide behind anything I could. This way I could still aid them if I needed to and still remain hidden.
Normally, my help wasn't needed. But once in a blue moon, my darling would bite off more than she could chew. In which case, I would have to come close to giving myself away in order to save her life.
I'd play like I'd never played before, for my love was on the line.
The song I would always play was one my mother taught me, called Tears. The notes would roll off my bow, quell the monster, and allowing my Yasmin to gain the upper hand.
I'm proud to say, she is the only reason for my existence. Without her, I'd have nothing, so her safety is high on my priorities list.
Each night, I was privledged to spend hours with her, despite the fact that my parents disapprove of her.
But every night, I would have to deal with our parting.
Before she'd leave though, she wrap her arms around me, hug me tightly and kiss me passionately on the lips. During these moments, I'd drift away, to a world where it's just me, her and the sounds of my violin.
Tears would be streaming down her face as she would quickly, as always, wrap her hand in mine as we had when we first met.
She'd smile through her tears and say, "That sounds pretty Vance Auspeare. Maybe I can hear it again sometime."
Then she'd drop my hand and run back towards her home, hoping her parents hadn't noticed her absence.
I'd sit there, completely heartbroken, as I watched the only woman I had ever loved leave me.
But that wouldn't stop me. For I knew the key to a woman's heart was music, and I have the gift.
I'd pursue her forever, even if it meant a close encounter with death. She's my soul mate, I can feel it in my heart. Nothing will stop us from being together, despite not having courage, I know it's meant to be.
