The Prideful Prince
While he is very noticeably muscular and fit, nobody would guess the strength of Vegeta merely by looking at him. He comes from the planet Vegeta and a race known as Saiyans. The Saiyans are warriors and it is in their blood to fight. An evil tyrant bent on being the strongest being in the universe killed off the Saiyans except for a few because of fear of these warriors of legend. Prince Vegeta was one of the few Saiyans that was allowed to live.
The condition of the tyrant allowing him to live was that he would go to various planets and destroy the inhabitants so that the tyrant could then sell the planet to some other people for a large profit. There were four Saiyans that Frieza had knowingly allowed to live, Vegeta, two other male Saiyans and a female Saiyan. The female Saiyan, a girl just a few years younger than Vegeta named Keysa, was somebody who definitely caught Vegeta's attention. It took a lot of convincing from the prideful and cocky prince, but finally she gave into him. Unfortunately for Vegeta, the evil tyrant didn't like the thought of two Saiyans together. He had already killed off most of the Saiyans and didn't want more being born. So to break up these two Saiyans, the tyrant sent Keysa on a solitary mission to a planet called Earth. On the way to Earth, the tyrant had her space pod sent through an asteroid field and crashed her pod. Vegeta was devastated, and became a cold and merciless killer. Even more than he had been.
Eventually Vegeta made it to Earth, and to his surprise Keysa was there. She had had some sort of injury to her head and forgotten everything about her life pre-Earth. She had even met a Saiyan named Goku, a peaceful-but very strong-Saiyan who had been raised on Earth as an earthling. When she saw Vegeta, however, it triggered her memory and she started to recall who she was. Many things went down that day, many things that Vegeta later came to regret. His pride would keep him from ever admitting to that, though.
Eventually, Vegeta ended up settling down on Earth with Keysa. He is still stubborn and hard to get along with, but for some reason she puts up with him. He tells her that it is a privilege for her to get to spend her life with the Prince of Saiyans, but deep inside he knows he is the lucky one. He found a strong, beautiful woman who puts up with all of his crap. He would do absolutely anything for her. His goal is to be the strongest being in the known universe, though for right now he would settle for being able to be stronger that Goku. It drives him up the wall to know that a lower class warrior is so much stronger that he, the Saiyan Prince, is.
