The creature walked briskly back and forth, pacing at a constant speed, terror filling his mind. He snarled and looked across at the battered, yet sophisticated chair, leaning slightly backwards. A small, glinting object lay on the leather seat, the dim light of the room reflecting off the shiny surface.
How many had he killed now? The question bothered him, picking away at his very mind like a worm nested in an apple. He dragged his claws across the worn floorboards, the sound prickling his ears, sending shivers up his spine.
The landscape just outside the room, which could be seen through a dark, murky window, was a glorious sight. Hundreds of people filled the streets below, and carriages swung to the left and right, dodging the masses of people, whilst the horses guiding them reared and bucked in a frenzied panic.
The beast walked slowly over to the leather chair, and held up the glinting object above his head, studying the sheer beauty, yet deadliness of such an item. This was the only object - the only thing - that could understand him.
The creature heard a slight noise, and looked behind him, trying to hide his sly grin from the waiting customer.
"I do believe you have come here for a trim, sir?"
