Have you ever felt frozen in time,
unable to change anything?
I always feel like that.
Literally.
I used to live a normal life:
a nice family, some friends, good grades.
Then,
suddenly,
everything stopped.
The wind ceased whistling through the leaves,
the birds lay suspended in the sky,
and the people,
the people just stood there, unchanging expressions on their faces,
like so many statues.
It seemed I was the only being left untouched by this state of stagnation.
I was terrified.
I tried shaking my friends back and forth,
hoping to break their trance.
I grabbed long sticks and nudged the animals,
poking and prodding, trying to wake them.
No matter what I did, my efforts were in vain.
The first few days, my emotions overwhelmed me.
I cried myself to sleep every night.
Then piece by piece, I pulled myself together.
I put on a face as listless as their own.
Now I wander the streets,
slowly dragging my feet
across the pavement.
Sometimes
I just lay down on the grass
and stare at the clouds.
I always see the same shapes.
Emotions have left me.
I hardly remember;
sorrow,
joy,
they're all the same.
But
there is one thing that has not yet escaped me.
That thing
is loneliness.

It gets awfully lonely.
