I was. That is something I can say with certainty, though I do not fully remember. I know that once I was... something. Someone. I must have been. After all, a shadow is not formed out of nothingness. A shadow must be cast by something, someone.
If I am now, I am defined by other things. I am a carrier for this disease. A catalyst for death. A bane for the truly alive. Without these external factors, I think, I would be nothing.
