The Obsideon gracing the prow of the mighty vessel had garnered many names throughout the years, but the one that could most easily strike fear in the hearts of villagers was simply "the Dragon King." The very mention of this name caused waves of horror to ripple through even the rowdiest of tavern common rooms. The Dragon King, they said, was the most fearsome pirate ever to sail the seven seas. He could gut a man with a flick of his rapier, set each and every shanty in a village aflame with a single match, and drop the saltiest seadog dead in his tracks with a single glare from that piercing eye of his.
Ryuujin, a rather unassuming little lass, or so most of the sailors in these bars believed, would often probe them for more information, more stories, more anything she could get out of them about the elusive Lord of Dragons. They would chuckle, pat her on the head, and continue their tales of the Dragon King's merciless tactics and ruthless brutality, relating gruesome tales of dismemberment and torture at the Dragon's hands.
She would laugh, leave the tavern boy a nice tip and thank the sailors for a good time. They'd warn her to beware the Dragon King, to which she'd reply that she knew how to take care of herself, and besides, she didn't think the Dragon King could be all that tough. He was all talk and no action. The sailors would simply marvel at her boldness, clap her on the back and wish her good luck.
Ha. The Dragon King? What had she to fear from the Dragon King?
After all, she had never felt the necessity to fear herself.
