"Pennie.. I uh.. got this flower for you and.. I."
"Not a problem my Queen, consider it taken care of."
"Thank you Hade, you're a saint."
Personality:
Ramirez as a whole is a very shy individual. He often mumbles to himself, too timid to get out the thoughts going through his head. Despite being shy, he has a desire to assist others that drives him to act courageously. He will often jump at the chance to lend a hand, even if he could up endangering his own life. He has little confidence in himself, but still makes an attempt to be optimistic. Love to him is a foreign thing, so when he tries to impress Pennie, he makes a fool of himself. He also has an insane obsession with eggs, to the point where he refuses a meal unless he finds out eggs are in it. Overall, he strongly believes that one day the shackles of his "curse" will be lifted and he can live a normal life.
Physical Description:
Despite being rather tiny as a child, he eventually grew into a rather strong young man. He has rather broad shoulders, muscular arms, legs and pectorals. His dutiful training, to help better his skills as a fire users, helped shape is current physique. His hair is black and spiked up only on the left side, with the rest of it hanging in between his eyes and along the sides of his face. His eyes are orangish-red in color. Perhaps the most distinguishing feature, is the flame shaped birthmark on his right arm.
Attire:
Ramirez has worn the same outfit since childhood, a large gray tank top that he eventually grew into, and shredded tan pants with multiple patches due to wear and tear through the years. As he aged, he started to wear a green bandana around his head and a small light blue belt with a green buckle that matches the color of the bandana.
Relationships:
Hade:
Ramirez feels a level of animosity towards the young swordsman, due to seeing him as a rival for Pennie's affections. But when Pennie isn't around, he's able to communicate with him on a friendly level. He feels the utmost respect for Hade, due to him helping him better manage his abilities and tolerating him in general. Hade supports him no matter what, something that Ramirez greatly appreciates. Rameriz considers Hade to be a fatherly figure to him. He speaks to him with the highest respect possible he can muster at every instance.
Pennie:
Due to his crush on her, Pennie thinks of Rammy as nothing but a goofball. He tries his best to impress her anyway he can, but he always fails. She finds him very strange, not realizing the meaning behind the deep things he asks her about. She does however, think of him as good friend and someone she can cont on, creepy or not.
Biae:
Ramirez and the queen hardly interact, but he respects her and the position she holds. He's loyal to the kingdom of Celeyti and the queen, making sure the citizens uphold her rules and regulations, as well as protecting them on a regular basis. He hopes one day he can prove his worth to her, so she will allow him to became a general to her army, much like his ancestors were to previous Celeyti monarchs.
Story:
I watched it all burn, and I only have myself to blame. This so called gift of fire is only a curse. I understand that now, but as child I was ignorant and believed I had a wonderful gift.
I was but four years old when discovered my right arm had a special power to it. I could conjure flames from it with a simple snap of my fingers.
The reasoning behind it, my uncle explained, was the strange birthmark that ran along my arm. He called the mark, the "Inferno Flame". The birthmark was apparently a sign of immense power and had been in my family for generations.
Each of my descendants shared my ability to generate fire. They were grand and imposing people, using their powers of flame for their own benefit. In doing so, they became idolized as well as revered.
Although I didn't agree with their tyrannical approach towards achieving greatness, I couldn't help but admire them.
One day, I thought, I'll be just as powerful as them. But I won't be as brutal, I'll help others best I can. Fire can be just as benevolent as it is malicious.
For the next three years, I trained under the tillage of grand uncle, who was the most powerful flame user in all of the Celelyti kingdom.
I was learning fast and soon began to hone my skills. I knew that somehow, someway, I'd help people by using my abilities. Fire isn't just a tool of the wicked.
But there was one thing I never took into account, my temper. Temper was what fueled the fire, quite literally. The angrier a user of the Inferno Spiral became the more intense the fire he would be able to produce. The only downside was that the blaze produced when aggravated would be completely unstable and unable to be put out. If only I had known this beforehand.
Our day started out as any other, until practicing hour. Uncle was testing my limits this particular day, try to gauge my true level of ability.
His way of coaxing me out of my shell was screaming, and that just made things go from bad to worse.
"You think you're the best there is, huh punk? Think you can hone in on my territory now? Think again little pipsqueak!"
I shook violently out of anger and fright, this was not a normal way for my uncle to act.
At the time, I was unable to see through his ruse, so I took the blunt of the blow with every comment he made. Anger surged through me, and I felt a power I've never felt before or since in that instance.
I cried out in pain and pride, letting the flames flow from my hands towards my uncle.
He wasn't prepared however, so the flames knocked him back onto our cottage home.
My eyes bugged out of my head, but I was sure he'd just shake it off.
I found my uncle, trapped underneath the a support beam to the house, burning rubble surrounding him. Tears welled in my eyes, for I knew I wasn't anywhere near strong enough to free him.
I had no way of calling for help either, due to our cottage being twelve miles away from the Celeyti kingdom. It would take days to travel that far, and my dear uncle regrettably didn't have that much time to spare.
I ran to him and thrust my arms around him.
"I'm sorry Uncle! I knew deep down that fire was innately evil! Look at the harm it creates," a stream of salty tears fell from my eyes and into my nose, the salt stung.
"It's not your fault... You can't gauge your own level of ability, not at your age. You also can't predict the future or go back in time, so there's no use mourning me. I have done what I needed to prepare you, so I have no regrets, neither should you," his uncle attempted to grin at me as he struggled to breath.
But I never really believed what my uncle was saying, not to this day. There was something malicious that lurked inside of me, and anger was what brought it out.
Despite knowing I couldn't lift the beam, I tried anyway. My small arms however couldn't do the job. I hung my head in shame as my eyes leaked more tears.
"Don't cry for me, Ramirez. You are a special boy, so I'm thankful to be the one underneath this beam instead of you. You will do good, I know it, there's no a single malice ridden thought in your brain. You'll make your old uncle proud, more than you already have. Now go, leave me here, there's nothing you can do. Just save yourself, this is my final wish," Uncle struggled to smile as he pulled me into a makeshift hug.
Not wanting to disappoint my uncle anymore, I ran from his home and didn't look back. All I heard as I ran was an explosion, the fire must have ignited something, meaning my uncle was beyond my realm of aid now. Lament laced my tears as I walked on.
For eight years, I wandered the world, desperate to save others from peril. I thought it was only way to see my dear uncle again.
However, due to my now gruff and muscular appearance and coupled with my birthmark, people deeply feared to even glance upon me.
But as luck would have it, once day when passing through the Celeyti forest; I heard a shout.
Behind the trees he found a young girl and man, armed with blades. They stood ready to charge into action.
Their swords clashed with a cling, and only one thought went through my mind, this girl was in trouble.
Without a second thought, I leaped from the bushes. My arm glowed its familiar reddish-orange, unlocking the power that was necessary to save a life.
I ran at the older man, thrashing my arm in rage. He was too quick however, and dodged all of my attacks. But I continued to come at him.
He picked up he sword and pointed it straight me, a cocked grin appeared on his face.
Seeing through his game, I pretend to let my guard down. My arm's glow faded.
"I mean you no harm," I managed, my voice squeaking.
The man seemed to know everything that ran through my mind, he kept his blade handy.
Without a second's warning, the man gallantly ran at me, sword poised for the kill.
He never anticipated how fast I was, my arm glowed and I swung it, knocking him backwards.
The old fear ran through me, I started to shiver. Despite being afraid, I knew once again I had endangered a life, even if they were a criminal.
"What do think you're doing," the young girl cried angrily.
"W-why saving you from this brute," I shyly countered.
Her cream hair hung angelically off her face like halo. Lime green eyes danced, piercing right through me. However, her gave didn't frighten me as it should have. I smiled and felt goofy as I felt my heartbeat in my chest, warmth flooded my face. Never before had I met such a beautiful girl.
Her voice broke my trance.
"Brute? He's my master! We were doing a training exercise! Then you waltz in and start attacking him! What a mindless ninny.." she grumbled.
Her words nudged me out of my state of enchantment. I had done it again, made a hasty choice and screwed up.
"I-I'm very sorry ma'am.. I didn't mean to.. I-I," I stammered.
A laugh rang out from behind me.
"You put on quite a show my friend, you almost had me going there," he smiled at me and hoisted himself up.
He then addressed his apprentice,
"Pennie, you made plenty of mistakes back there, we're going to iron those out later."
"Yes Chief," Pennie sighed, crossing her arms in frustration.
"The name's Hade by the way. Pleasure to meet you mister...," Hade questioned, perhaps noticing that I was paying more attention to his apprentice than him.
"The name's Ramirez, sir," I held out my hand and shook his.
"What brings you out here? Isn't your family worried about you," Hade questioned.
I lowered my head and mumbled,
"There's no family left for me."
So, for the first time, I opened up to someone. I let them know how I got to where I did and the inner turmoil I faced daily, due to my strange powers. Hade suggested I come back to the castle with them and the queen might be able to aid me in my quest to gain an edge over my sporadic gift of fire.
When we arrived in the throne room, we were met by a stunning woman in an lavish red gown and a matching fan in hand.
Her beauty and powerful demeanor were irrefutable, but in my eyes couldn't surpass Pennie, queen or not.
Her eyes moved quizzically over me. I winced as I noticed this.
Hade moved over to her, bowed and then whispered in the queen's ear.
She gasped several times, but then after awhile, nodded.
She smiled a royal smile at me,
"My knight tells me you're looking for a way to suppress your gift. I'd like you demonstrate it for me please."
I did just as she had asked, my arms glowed the glow I knew so well. Fire licked my arm as I stood, becoming the epicenter of the room. To show her my powers, I threw small fire balls around the room, that were just enough to show and not enough to destroy anything.
Her staff struggled to put them out, however, much to my embarrassment.
"Very nice Ramirez. I can tell you are a man of grand promise. You shall work alongside Hade and Pennie from now on. They, I can assure you, will aid you on your quest. I'm sure there is someone who can tame your astounding talent," the queen warmly replied.
I bowed and thanked her.
As we left the kingdom, a true smile appeared on my face, for the first time since my uncle's death. I now was one step closer to my cleansing, soon I'd be free of my curse.
But I wouldn't have to walk alone anymore, I had friends to travel alongside me. A strong man, who was intimidating but powerful, just as my ancestors. Not a mention, a beautiful girl, sadly her eyes seemed to follow only Hade, a fact which did quite a number to my heart.
Maybe someday she'll see how kind I can be, and love me back. With a new goal in mind, I trudged on, overjoyed to not be alone.
