Once upon a life
Once upon a time, a child cried out into the dark
...and no one answered.
"I'll just wait." He thought.
"I'll wait right here and they'll find me."
Who are they? Asked no one.
He didn't know. He had no clue who
he was waiting for. His Mother and Father
had died, and he...
"I'll go then." He said.
"I'll go back home, and they'll help me."
Which way is home? Asked no one.
He was just a child, he had no idea where home was.
"I'll go this way" and he got up, brushed off the
dirt and walked on.
And he walked. He walked through the night, and
when the sun rose, he walked some more.
What are you walking for? Asked no one.
"I'm walking.." He began to answer, but then...
Why was he walking? Where was he going?
Why had he left?...He fell hard to the ground, but it
didn't hurt. "Why am I walking?" He cried softly.
Who are you? Asked no one.
"Who am I?" He asked no one.
Lovely Art by Nine <3
Pistachio was like any other normal Yehxil child.
He had a Mother and a Father who loved him.
He lived in one of the few underground Cities
that his ancestors carved out decades ago.
He very much longed to see the world above his home.
His parents would every so often travel topside
to see friends in neighboring Yehxil colonies.
They promised their son that when he was old enough,
he would make the long walk with them, and see the world.
One fateful year, his chance came at last.
He popped his nose out from the Tunnels, getting
a whiff of fresh Spring air. Nervous at first, but
invigorated by the clean crisp scent, he scurried out
from the hole, and looked out over Mistica with wide
eager eyes.
It was early Spring still, the flowers were just opened
and the grassy fields a vibrant green, glistening
with the dew of a new day. Birds were singing their
morning "Hello" and the sky shined a blue unlike
anything the child had ever seen.
His parents chuckled, and beckoned for him to follow.
The little Yehxil hopped around them in circles as
he relished the feeling of grass on his hooves.
The world above was so much more than anything he
could have imagined, he could stay up here forever.
The sun climbed higher as clouds painted the sky white.
Pistachio had gotten tired of walking some time ago,
his Father now carried him on his shoulders, but the child
still looked around in awe. The tree tops above them
only let the sun through from small gaps of their leaves,
dappling the family with brilliant golden spots.
The forest was a buzz with life, but it wouldn't be long
until darkness would claim the day, and the Yehxil
knew they needed to be hurrying on. They were very
close to the neighbor city now, but the happy family
of three...would never make it.
The child awoke in the dark. The air was cool, and the
grass felt damp. Then he remembered what he was doing
out here. He called out quietly for his mother, his father.
But no answer came. He called out louder, but only the
lonely cricket called back. He picked himself up of the
forest floor, and looked around for any sign of his parents.
There, lying a few feet away, were two dark shapes.
They layed motionless, and the child stood motionless.
He didnt want to see that the two black figures were
his parents. He turned away and fell to the ground again,
crying softly to himself.
Some time passed, and the child looked up.
"Where am I?" He thought. He looked around through
the darkness again, and saw nothing he could remember.
He looked back at the lifeless shadows, but couldn't find
their names. "How did I get out here?" He asked the night.
He wasn't cold, or hungry or thirsty, but he thought he
should be. He felt a sadness in his heart, but he didn't
know why.
"Am I dead?" He asked the night....and no one answered.
