Backstory
Like all other Kohal, Monotone was yet another one of Queen Boreal's minions, at least for a while. What he did to be cast off, he had no idea, but being the naive Kohal he was, he didn't give the issue much thought. The only thing on his mind as he wandered the Diamond Glacier Domain was whether he could find something else to serve. It took weeks, months, maybe, before the Kohal finally reached this sandy place, where it heard a wondrous sound drift to it from the Itzair Ruins.

It learned from the stranger who made that sound, that this wondrous sound was called 'music'. That was when Monotone decided that he would devote his whole life to this 'music', and create the wondrous sound for everyone to hear. Feeling touched by the Kohal's inspirations, and not really wanting that crappy Ocarina he dug up anyway, the kind stranger let the Kohal have the Starry Night Ocarina. Monotone had been using it since.

It's too bad the Kohal is completely tone-deaf and everything he played was, well. Monotone.

That didn't stop Monotone from wanting to be the best musician ever, though! He traveled far and wide, playing his music for anyone who wanted to hear. The fact that no one wanted to hear was discouraging, but Monotone wasn't about to give up!

His endeavors were rewarded when a strange Apocalyptic Zokuleon decided to attach itself to him, because of his music. . . Or is it because of the Ocarina? Well, either way, Monotone wasn't going to mind the company, and they've been traveling together since.

About Monotone
Monotone is kind of dense. Sarcasm can fly way over his head, as he would mostly take your words seriously. At least for a while. Never receiving any education tends to do that to people. Not that Monotone didn't want education, it was just that Queen Boreal just didn't provide such a thing.

He is, however, intelligent enough to learn things relatively quickly, provided he's interested in what he has to learn. As such, the Kohal is able to read music sheets a lot better than he can read books, although that does not help with his lack of music talent at all.

Monotone, like his name suggests, is only able to play monotonous music. He had been trying to play proper music despite being completely tone-deaf, but it seems that even with plenty of practice, all his notes still remain flat.

Not wanting to remain a failure in music for forever, Monotone does appreciate other people trying to help him overcome this obstacle. Nothing seems to work so far, however, but Monotone isn't about to give up. Perhaps one day he would become one of the world's greatest musicians, but until then, never ask him to play a tune for you. Ever.

As of recently, Monotone has acquired a pet bird, affectionately named Baritone. Monotone's other companion, Roewan, seems to disagree with Baritone's presence, mainly due to the avian's tendency to steal its charms. In order to avoid having Baritone for dinner, Monotone makes sure to have the bird return the stolen goods as soon as he finds out about the theft.
