Ari swore he's the Jabberwock brought to life, to which Lucien concurred. Elvis just burst into tears at the very sight of him. Bava and Pel stood side-by-side, putting up a brave front for the young ones whilst debating in whispers the wisdom of "fleeing to fight another day." Tam just croaked out "Holy ..." and turned and ran for his the sanctuary of his room. Such was Mal's "greeting" when I brought him home. I was rather worried that he wouldn't have a place with everyone else (not that it seemed to upset him entirely). Widget and Zydeco had other plans though. Maybe it was because they're "new" too...regardless, Widget's welcome was fresh-picked flowers from Ari's garden, applied carefully into the matted hair between Mal's ears. He was surprisingly tolerant of the unexpected grooming session and although he growled at Widget, it was a subdued sound. Zydeco was the most nonchalant, looking Mal up and down once and proclaiming loudly that he'd "seen me a alligator-gar wit more teef dan dat tang."
Lucien kept tugging at my sleeve, insisting to be heard. "Suppose he was quiet with Widge because then it would be easier to catch (and devour) her later? Suppose Tamerlane was right for once?" Then Pel muttered something that sounded an awful lot like "Grendel," followed by some garbled rant containing the mangled phrase "wolf amongst sheep," at which point I started second-guessing my decision to bring Malebolgia home. But he looked so lonely and hungry...so, am I naive or what?
