(WORKING AND EDITING)
---------------
there is a place called the Orange Swamps of Payna. The mapping of the territory is quite large; think the whole State of New York in retrospect. The swamp and the inhabitants look ordinary during the day. But at night is when everything holds beauty. Foliage glows orange; along with many of the flowers and little creatures living within it. Pretty much the whole place goes from browns and dull hues to vibrant blues, rich pinks, neon whites and all the colors inbetween. Everything practically comes alive.
Now there are tribes of inhabitants who have always lived within its protection. Keeping the place pure and helping the guide keep a balance of magic as well. They trade with civilizations outside through various rest posts. The posts are located along an obvious beaten path that is practically down the center of the territory. You will have a strong recommendation if not your only choice is to stay and sleep at nightfall in one of the various posts on the path. As when the sun leaves is when danger emerges and the swamp comes alive and plays its tricks on the travelers mind if they wander or step off the beaten path.
The path only stops and breaks off to four separate paths depending on your journey or destination. This is to make sure that everyone can make their way through without any casualties; granted that it is still day time. At that cross section there is an altar. You can chose to pray for a safe journey or even leave food for the guide’s good luck.
During the daylight hours most who get lost often find their way back on their own accord. Some need some extra guidance and often have to be startled back to the path. Small children though are treated different; if they wander off they are often led back by a large monkey/ape who walks with the kid hand in hand dropping it off near the parents. He is often never seen. If an adult spots him all they catch is his blue backside or even a quick haze of black and orange as they are more focused on their child to get a good glance before his hasty retreat.
During night is a different story; if you wander off the path the guide must grab you with much haste; before you are swallowed up by the dangerous creatures that jump from tree to tree and swim in the thick muck below and around your feet. But he can only help you on your own accord; never touching a single soul without their permission. Unless they themselves start something that can’t finish.
At night when he comes into view he seems to have no facial features. Only to the surprise that his face glows like that of a Jack-O-Lantern. His large mass often causes humans to go running in the opposite direction. Over time he has learned not to just hop down from the trees next to a being that is lost. It makes their judgment cloud with fear and makes his job even harder. So he now lets out vocals; small grunts and coos as he approaches. To show the person that he is of no harm and only wants to guide them back. He will either walk in front of you; leaping up into the trees once you are back on the beaten path by a post. Or he will grab your hand; to lead you out of a situation with haste if he senses danger.
Now the inhabitants; the tribe’s people and even creatures know WHO the guide is. It is a creature that looks strikingly similar to a mandrill in build (in our world). A long tail and the two extra arms are often a surprise to all. He is the only creature like that recorded. To those who are passing through they may be lucky catch a glimpse of him and or watch him just chill above or inside a trading post. Eating next to the large shrine or even walking around the beaten path he keeps in check.
