Witch of the Red Tides
Now what do we have here? A little lost lamb in need of assistance from a powerful witch? Well dear, you've come to the right place. My name is Hierziine, but most know me as the Witch of the Red Tides. I assume you've heard of me already, otherwise you probably wouldn't have found me out here. I admit that living in the dark depths of a bewitched forest is not the best choice for business, not to mention the cliche. But I enjoy the peace here, it does wonders for my beauty sleep.
Now before I trail off, what is it you seek? Jinxes, spells or remedies, I have all. If you seek a tutor however, I cannot assist you, I do not take apprentices. I only help in that way if the matter is urgent, otherwise I have enough things on my plate, especially when it comes to Light.
Although I cannot properly teach you, I can still explain some things. It might even keep you from harm.
You see, no matter which element you choose to master, you must be aware that there is no good or bad within the elements. Each one has the power to mend as well as to destroy. Whether your element has positive or negative effects depends entirely on how you use it and how good you are at controlling it.
You know, a lifetime ago I was a Pure Light elemental, a spellsword in fact. I made quite a name for myself, I wonder if anyone still remembers it... Anyway, I do not wish to brag, but my elemental mastery surpassed that of most, I left the academy as one of the best and made a name for myself quickly. But I was still young and foolish, and so when my powers grew too strong for me to control, I just kept going. It took several accidents, luckily no one but myself was harmed, and a near-death experience for me to realize that I had a problem which wasn't that easy to solve. Well, perhaps not even the near-death experience itself, it was really a Spirit who convinced me that I'm chasing my own destruction. At that point, Light alone was not the solution, I had to accept that I needed the Darkness to balance the Light.
It was not an easy transition, I was a Pure after all, and as all Pure elementals, I was biased like you wouldn't believe. No matter where you go, no matter which elemental you ask, everyone claims their element is the best. I do sometimes miss the pure power of Light I once had, but I found that the Darkness has many charms as well.
While we're at it, my feathers used to be white, but that's hard to believe now. The first step of my transition was to transform my body, I had to infuse myself with the Darkness. I look like this now because the Darkness I carry on the outside contains the Light that rages within me. I don't really mind it anymore, I think I actually look quite dashing in black. Just the bleeding can be a bit annoying. And that, my friend, proves how every element has the ability to destroy. I've heard of worlds where they believe the Light is the ultimate good and they see Darkness as evil. Yet it is the Light that is trying to eat me up from the inside, and if it weren't for the Darkness, I would have been consumed by my own power by now.
I will live, as long as I remain Perfect and keep the balance of my elements. My Light will probably forever try to scar me, but I know I can count on my Darkness to keep me from sustaining any real damage.
You need to keep in mind, nothing could be what it seems. One should not judge a book by its cover, I should know, I'm like a book of Darkness which is filled with the brightest Light.
I've already rambled on long enough, but if you happen to be a traveler, you might meet some of my friends. I used to study with another Light elemental, a necromancer. He was not happy about my transition from Pure to Perfect. Like I said, biased. But we are still friends, he even gifted me my darling Lucis. One of his own creations, a reincarnated serpent infused with Light. In a way he did it to spite me, he is convinced I should have stayed true to the Light. But what is done is done, and he is slowly, really slowly, getting used to it.
It's also been a while since I've heard of the Spirit. The old wolf was an interesting fellow, and so polite. I'm sure I killed quite a few nerves during our time together, but he didn't seem to hold it against me. I don't know what he's doing now, probably still helping others. I'd love to have tea with him again and exchange stories.
If you ever meet any of them, please be a dear and let them know how much I miss them.
