Easygoing and friendly, Hickory Baelson also has a short temper that got her in trouble a lot as a cub. She constantly came rambling home with cuts and gashes, grinning from ear to ear and assuring her little brothers that one or more of their bullies would never bother them again.
She worked most of her life at a mountain quarry somewhere in Blizzards Realm, either digging with her father, hauling rocks and ores, or preparing a huge amount of food with her mother. Though she would sometimes climb up to an overhang and sit there, looking out at the land below and wishing she could travel. At age twenty, that wish came true...but at a terrible price...
One white winter morning, there was a commotion that brought the quarry patrol running. Little Pip, Hickory's youngest brother, was lying in the bloodstained snow with an ice shard straight through him...
But the guards' attention was quickly grabbed by two Inarbus, wrestling nearby. A huge noir Inarbu Bandit was pinned on the ground by blood-covered Hickory, who was practically skinning him with her razor sharp claws.
The bandit soon died from blood-loss, and though the family moved on, Hickory couldn't stand passing the little gravestone day after day...it only reminded her that she could have saved him instead of letting her rage get the best of her.
Two weeks after the incident, some new guards came to the quarry town, as well as a Mericai caravan. Hickory decided to tag with them, working as extra muscle and occasional night watch in return for food and a bed to sleep in. The Mericai really liked her, and they kept her on for about a year.
Then they passed through Kingdom Village, where Hickory found a want ad on the side of a building and applied. Erika was impressed with her baking skills and took her on. Once she had the job, she said goodbye to the caravan and settled in Kingdom village for another year...
...then a Tarinooki broke into her home and made off with all her uncut stones.
