BACKSTORY
hamlet is the the middle child of five brothers, so to speak. when he was young, he was generally an optimistic and easygoing person. however, things took a drastic change for him when both of his elder brothers, ragnarok and hawthorne, elected him to manage the land of the dead. despite his lack of enthusiasm, hamlet took up the task with little complaint, unwilling to disobey the will of his older brothers. however, as the years passed, the harsh environment and the nature of his fate began to take its toll, and hamlet became a cruel, bitter soul, a mere fragment who he once was.
to this day he retains a deep resentment of both hawthorne and ragnarok, both of whom he blames for what has happened to him.
RELATIONSHIPS
gunnison: for the most part, hamlet avoids his youngest brother. while his distance and cold demeanor appears to signal a strong distaste for gunnison, this could not be farther from the truth. while gunnison's impulsiveness and occasionally reckless behavior do irritate hamlet, he is secretly jealous of his younger brother. hamlet envies the innocence and naive life that his brother is able to live, and feels that it's best for him to keep his distance.
hawthorne: due to their tumultuous past, hamlet feels very little affection for his older brother. the two rarely come into contact with one another, often going years without speaking to one another. unlike his situation with gunnison, hamlet has little tolerence for hawthorne's easygoing lifestyle.
matthew: because matthew and gunnison share similar personalities, hamlet typically avoids his younger brother. he remains largely ambivilant towards matthew's actions, though he won't necessarily go out of his way to avoid the mischievous water sprite.
ragnarok: put simply, hamlet despises ragnarok. while both ragnarok and hawthrone were equally responsible for the decision to delegate hamlet to maintaining the afterlife, it's ragnarok that hamlet places the majority of the blame on. this is because he felt that ragnarok, with his affinity for creating weapons, was singlehandedly responsible for promoting more deadly warfare that made it necessary for someone to permanetnly take up residence among the dead and relegate their vast population.
PERSONALITY
hamlet is a cold, stern person. after being on his own for so many years, he is happiest when left to his own devices. he has a strong work ethic and lacks any real sense of humor - it's merely a waste of time in his eyes. although he hates it, he takes his job seriously and spends many, many hours making sure things are kept in order.
while he is a man of few words, he considers himself to be rather intelligent and takes pride in his intellect and wit. he is neither shy nor antisocial, though he prefers solitude over the company of others. despite this, he is rather talkative with his only true friend, odysseus. the two have a strong bond that is far superior to the relationship hamlet has with any of his brothers.
APPEARANCE
hamlet is rather short and a bit stocky. standing only around 5'5", he is the shortest of his brothers. his dark complexion and hair seem to compliment his personality, making him appear as intimidating as he is. his eyes are a striking icy blue.
