Halfrax's Research Log

Halfrax is a Frodrinn warlock. He discovered he had innate magical abilities as a young man when he realized various fruit had latent properties that could be mixed or augmented. He became renowned as a potion maker,in the following years, but his thirst for knowledge of all things magical lead him to delve deeply into the occult. It was not long before his potions turned to poisons, his customers to test subjects, and his fame to infamy. Halfrax became obsessed with his work, and felt detached from the rest of Mistica. His one companion is a Coally named Scotch, who silently accompanies him through his travels, and observes his work. Halfrax frequently talks to Scotch despite his muteness. Asking him questions, arguing with him, or simply talking at him. Halfrax's goal is to discover a way to harness the powers of fire itself, for he finds its capacity to either help or harm to be godlike....

Need to find a Chandler of some skill for this next experiment. I have little faith in the "witches" of banshee swamp. They are a superstitious and meddlesome bunch of crones, but ill be working in the area throughout the season and this ritual will be a amusing distraction.

Harvesting glimmerweed on the edge of banshee swamp. Miserable damp little hole. At least I can work out here in peace. I dont know how many times Ive been interrupted by a stammering local wondering what alchemy is, or how magic works, or weather its going to rain. Fools. Utterly useless blithering sacks of meat stuffed in unkempt rags. Though, I did enjoy the chance encounter in darkwood hollow. I had the most intellectually stimulating conversation with a beautiful young Tarinooki, and recording her reaction to the pomme i laced with my hybrid Mandoran-Zicissor poison was crucial to my developmental research.

And on a personal note; I am still surprised at how messy that got... (Bring gloves next time!)

Experiment 842 was a failure

though... even that old broken box had enough of Pandoria's power to almost fully change the subject. Almost being the key word... It may be difficult to track the cheran down though. I spent most of the afternoon clearing up the mess that fireball caused, and now its nearly sunset and raining. I hate leaving a loose end like this... But i can't interrupt my experiments, I'll have to send some sell-sword to deal with him.

Ive managed to find that missing tome stolen by the Haruba. He had hidden it in a rotten log, luckily it was no worse for the wear. The haruba was dead nearby, mauled by my Draklaita. No samples of the Haruba were available to examine further.

Good. Revelry is done. Even here the racket unbearable. I have a good mind to see that Benny meets an unfortunate end next year. Though, there was one positive from this simple minded celebration. I lured a pair of Aetra into the chamber with a lie about free beads. Mentally deficient as they most likely are, i will probably test my new toxins on them.

Znakes... these creatures could prove useful, if i can find a way to put them under my control. Try a hypnosis elixir, maybe potion of command? Regardless. Znakes could be augmented and cross bred to increase the toxicity of poisons. An army of poison Znakes would surely keep any would be heroes from storming the tower again. I had to use my good Serum of Madness to stop that blasted Inarbu. It was a shame to put such a prime physical specimen of a beast down...
