They say birds are the messengers of the gods, they say birds are reincarnated souls. There are many odd things said about the winged creatures. Black ones - crows, ravens, blackbirds; messengers of death, vessels used by the grim reaper, servants of Death who carry souls in their claws. White ones - Doves, pigeons, swans; purified souls, messengers of The Almighty, things able to give blessing in ones' life. This is all false. There is no special meaning behind birds, not normal ones anyway. The "special" ones have two names. Females are called Hugin while males are called Munin. No one knows where these names originated from, but an old story - older than the stories of Medallions or Emblems, before wars broke out or dragons became known to man. From the eye of the original Hugin, a tear fell and formed the blood of the first bird laguz. From the foot of the original Munin, a great flame erupted and became the power granted to dragons, when reunited with original's blood, formed the body of the first dragon laguz. Whether any of this is true is anyone's guess, but it's a pretty fairytale.
I wish I could say that this is all false. Long ago man attempted to become god. They believed it was possible to create life from nothingness. This is simply impossible. In years gone the creations of history became known as Morphs. In recent years, sciences have advanced. While magic is a very real concept, science has given rise; after all necessity is the mother of invention. Greedy creatures wishing to play god, creatures that wanted the power of Hugin and Munin. Well, they did succeed, anyway, but at what cost?
Blank slates, fully grown physically but unaged mentally. Ready to be molded how they see fit. You know, they say The Almighty is just in his ways. Karma has a way of coming around and giving people what they deserve. The creations were far from human. They weren't even fit to be called Laguz. When they were first debuted to the public eye, they were simply called "Replicants", copies of what humans and laguz were meant to be. Both sides of humanity sought these new Replicants as a scapegoat, something that both sides could hate openly and diffuse their own racial tensions. It worked, anyway.
