At a young age, Coda could see ghosts and spirits, but from the description a child could give they were passed off as 'imaginary friends'. She started seeing them after a near death experience, which hospitalized her for some time. While she was in the hospital, she had the ability to sense when a person was near death, some would say more accurate than a machine. Patients that she had this sense for would soon pass her sight, only in spirit form, confirming to herself this ability.

As she got older, these 'imaginary friends' stayed, despite her growing out of her childhood, making her question them more rather than fear them. She could speak to these ghosts, but that was the limit to her interactions, and therefore would try to help any restless spirits with speech to her best ability. She came to the fact that it was easiest to help directly at the source, her hospitalization and ability inspiring her to become a nurse.

Her personality is almost motherly to those in need, and has a great deal of patience with people, though she tends to keep her visions to herself from being labeled as strange. Coda will sit bedside with a patient that has no hopes of surviving, encouraging them to hang onto their life until they passed on, giving the ghost her greetings after the inevitable. She assists surgeons at times, the only types of people she loses patience with. If they are too slow with their work and her death senses trigger, she'll become stressed and attempt to push them beyond their abilities, which can be just as life threatening to the patient.
