The desert night is unending. The midnight sky is vast and darted with uncountable stars, all blinking out of unison, like a great symphony with no conductor.
His foot steps cause ripples in the sand. He sighs, and hot wind brushes over the world. His gaze carries the reflection of the black sky, holding within it the visage of the innumerable stars. He cradles his dominion to sleep with his song, to coolness, to stillness.
His steps fall out of time. He resides neither here nor there. He is all and everything in this place. He is the desert itself. From the ground, to the stars. He is unending.
In a short while, the sun will rise over the highest dune. It is then that he will fall, crumbling to dust and to ash. To his last step, he will not falter. At dawn, time catches up with him.
And in the hot day, he will be born again, changed.
He will rise as fire.

"The Red God"
Camel is the incarnation of the desert itself. He is wondrous and vast, and impossible to behold. He is two-faced. His time at night is spent in opposition to the day. He is constantly undoing and redoing, unmaking and creating what he has previously done. He will never be satisfied with stagnation.
It is said that if one does see him, even though he bears no form visible to the naked eye, that they themselves will become a part of the desert, unable to leave even if they desired to. They will be compelled to walk the desert the rest of their days.
Of course, that is just a myth. And anyway, he is without form, and remains invisible and unfathomable.

Red
red
the sun bleeds red
drenching the earth
in silent fire.
Bleach the dirt,
bend the plant
rake the world
with hot and death.
Turn the hand
that shields the sky
break the grip
of mortal lies.
End the reign
of time's decay
tend the wounds
of disarray.
Red, red
the sky breathes fire,
feed the flames
with tireless ire.
Red, red
the sky breathes fire.

Feet drag on hot sand, leaving long thin tracks behind him. His mouth is so dry, it is a struggle to breathe.
There is no end in sight. He will perish here, surrounded by dunes, stepping in and out of their gargantuan shadows.
They are so tall.
His legs are as heavy as steel. In a moment he can no longer walk. He falls and cannot rise. He cannot even muster the strength to drag himself into the shadow of the dune, so that he may die with some relief from the sun.
He would be angry if he had even the smallest bit of energy to spare. The single-most thing occupying his mind is how the sand burns his bare cheek. It would be unbearable, if he cared.
He does not notice when he exhales his last breath and breathes no more.
There is light in front of him, and somehow he is standing. The light is cool. It refreshes him. In an instant, he feels revived.
The light fades, only barely, and in front of him stands a camel of unusually large proportion. It is a deep blue-back color, with a fire alight on its hump.
And in its eyes he sees the universe. He sees stars blinking in and out of existence. He sees worlds birthed and burned, worlds created, and worlds broken. He sees nebulae and constellations and galaxies. He sees star-stuff and stardust, and is in awe.
The camel turns and the light dims as it travels away from him.
Naturally, he follows, paying no mind to the body left behind, slowly being covered with sand and quickly forgotten to the earth.
