Buck works as a security guard, preventing people from getting past the huge wired fence he guards and into a secret building. This building has remained a secret ever since it was built; it has even been kept unknown to Buck and all the other guards protecting it. What is behind the fence, really? It's a laboratory which is for making new discoveries. The CEO is super secretive and doesn't want any of his projects getting out; he doesn't want people claiming his ideas and he doesn't want people hassling him for testing all his projects on animals.
For almost every inexperienced past guard, there seems to be a horrible ending to their story. What happened was that the mystery of not knowing was much too great for them. And they just went insane. Buck earned his nickname from the other security guards for his hostile behavior. They feel that maybe Buck will be one of the lucky ones to not lose his sanity. Buck better not feel too superior, though, or he may end up becoming much more hostile than he already is and even more violent. And then you might as well just call him insane.
