In a deep wood there once was a happy village and in its place now emptiness. The walls of homes and other buildings have long lost their color, many have crumbled almost to the foundation. The graves there serve as reminder of how much life filled this place. One in particular was for a young girl, a butterfly for the headstone and flowers laid about by those who loved her.
Long ago her family moved from a bustling city to escape a terrible plague. It was popular belief that in the country side and wild forests the air was clean, it was safe from any harm the plague would bring. It was easy for them to move to the village being well off and having a merchant for a father. As the tiny village blossomed so did the girl, her family made the town so popular they made her father owner of their bank.
When she was sixteen her parents held many parties in hopes to find a suitor. Many men came both from the village and far away. Among them was a charming doctor, rumored to be well off and highly noted among societies elite. He won her heart with his brilliant mind and charisma.
He was so good with his words that no one questioned him or thought to look into what kind of man he really was. The wedding seemed to go smoothly like a dream and as part of the ceremony it was tradition for the groom to give the bride an apple. This symbolized prosperity and fruitfulness in the many years they would share together.
The twisted doctor had laced the apple with the plague he would not only have the body he required for his sinister plan but the wealth of his bride to fund it. After her funeral he dug her body up and took it to a hidden lab within their home. His intention was to create life, a life that would serve him without question and help him gain the power he craved.
The doctor was successful in bringing her back though she was not quite what she used to be. The revived bride remembered his betrayal, she lured him near and kissed him pretending as though she had forgotten his wicked deed. Smiling the undead bride looked him in the eyes, "My dear doctor, you may not be as wise as you thought yourself to be. The plague you gave me can simply be transferred by touch. Just as the kiss you gave me on our wedding day meant my death this kiss means yours."
She thought after this all would be mended and even though she was undead there was chance of life again with her family and friends. There were screams of horror from those seeing her body pale and blood stained. All hid in their homes shutting windows and doors, not even her family let her in.
No one knew the plague could be carried on the wind, the villagers started becoming ill one by one. Too afraid to leave their homes it spread fast and the dead were tossed out windows. Only three months passed and the remaining few villagers came out from hiding.
There was no use in staying away when they were soon to die as well. It might as well be a passing out in the beauty of the day not crammed in the corner of a dark home. The bride was showing signs of decay on her body as any dead creature would and the villagers no longer brought her joy. Once they died she was left there with the emptiness to rot alone thinking of joys life used to hold for her.
