Beowulf is Grendel's brother. He is everything Grendel is not. He is joyful, kind, soft-natured, and a bit of a pushover. He does not intimidate or use his powers to meddle in other's affairs. He shares his brother's gift of teleportation, time travel, and dimensional travel, but he does not use it as recklessly or as intimately as Grendel. They have long split ways, these two; if prompted, Grendel would reply, "What? No, I don't have a brother, why would you even ask?"
Beowulf is a story-teller at heart. He loves tales of courage and beauty and oddity, and he immortalizes them in the art of song. His most prized possession is his lute, which was famously crafted by a woodsmith of great standing. It fell into his hands by pure luck, dropped straight out of a tree from the hands of dead man.
You see, Beowulf is unusually lucky. He is always in the right place at the right time. He has born witness to many great acts of courage (which he then regales to any that will listen) and many unusual atrocities. He has seen more slain than he cares to remember. It is just a chance look, something caught adrift in the wind, or the way his feet took him that day. He does not intentionally seek out these instances, but as it so happens, they always make grand and fantastic stories. He has a penchant for standing in the background as well; he does not like to interfere.
He doesn't know why he's always in the right place at the right time. He just has instinct for that sort of thing, or so he likes to think.
