And So My Story Begins...
Medusa by Greg Horn
Mother would tell me I was a pretty girl
Then she would cry all night
Nobody thinks that really they're being cruel
When they suggest that I should try to look like them
As if God loved the pretty ones best
Damn 'em all - I create my own perfection
Damn 'em all in the face of their rejection
Damn 'em all - well this dog will have its day
My garden's full of pretty men who couldn't stay away
Notice the ones who all like to criticize
Are the ones trying to hide
Why would I sell my soul to be one of them
Better to love the me within behind the skin
I choose to be a goddess inside
Damn 'em all - I create my own perfection
Damn 'em all in the face of their rejection
Damn 'em all - well this dog will have its day
My garden's full of pretty men who couldn't stay away
Damn 'em all - I create my own perfection
Damn 'em all in the face of their rejection
Damn 'em all - well this dog will have its day
My garden's full of pretty men who couldn't stay away
Damn 'em all!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was once the most beautiful woman in Greece and I will confess my vanity in my appearance had not gone unnoticed especially with the goddess Athena of whom I had angered on more then one occasion. The last time I fear, I suffered her anger to its full extent. Looking back, I wish the events of that day never happened.
I have won the affection of many men but none more so then Poseidon, the God of the sea. I was in love with him and for the most part, he was in love with me. I was warned by many especially the Worshipers of Athena that his union would have dire consequences but I scoffed at them. I had my beauty and the love of one of the Olympians and this would be my downfall.
One night I waited for Poseidon under the full moon sitting at the edge of the sea, eagerly waiting the moment when we would be together again. I watched as waves small at first that had become larger as a figure emerged from beneath the surface. He was translucent; made of water but as he approached the shoreline, his body solidified into flesh and bone.
I ran to him, wrapping my arms around his neck, kissing him. He laughed and lifted me up into his arms and just then the sky opened up, releasing the rain. We ran for shelter and without even a momentary thought, ran into the first building we saw. We lie in each others arms waiting for the rain to stop when we heard a large commotion that caught our attention.
There stood in gold and silver armor was Athena, a look of anger and hatred on her face.
' You dare defile my temple, harlot. '
I hid behind Poseidon, hoping he would protect me yet I was wrong.
' My dear sister, it was not my idea to seek shelter in your temple but hers. I warned her of the repercussions that this act will bring but my words fell on deft ears. ' Poseidon bowed, his body in a position of obedience.
I was lost for words, only a small whisper escaped my lips and it was then Athena turned her anger towards me.
' I am sure this was not all her fault dear brother but I will deal with you at another time. As for you, woman, I will curse you in the only way I know how. You who values your beauty and think that your looks alone will carry you through life but you will see that from this moment on, no man will look upon you without having a curse put on them. ' Athenas voice echoed through the temple and with a wave of her hand, I was cursed.
My body contorted as pain shot through every muscle and bone. My head felt as if it was going to split open and it was then that I heard hissing of serpents. I felt movement on my scalp and as I rushed to a pool of water, I realized what had happened as dozens of snakes writhed and contort each moving on its own. Weaving in and around one another.
I looked to Poseidon for help but he had a look of disgust on his face and with no more then a word, disappeared after his sister. I ran out of Athenas temple and did not stop until I reached my garden sanctuary and it is here I tend to my garden and let my hatred for Athena and Poseidon fester. Men have come and they all have met the same fate. A single glance into my eyes makes them unable to leave and forever they will remain to keep me company.
