Guide to a Successful Shop

Many people have wondered how to make a decent profit off their shop, and some have the misconception that you need hundreds of items in stock or a ton of time and MC. This is not true! It’s surprisingly simple and quick to make a good profit from your shop. This guide should help you on your way, but please keep in mind these are mainly my methods, and not the only right way. Feel free to experiment on your own!

There are two things to consider when building and maintaining a shop: items and price.

Items -

What do you stock your shop with? This part requires a little bit of research at first, but soon you’ll be able to quickly spot desirable items.

The best way to start is to do quests and see what Traveler and Volcan ask for. Keep in mind that super rare/rare items may go for a good profit, but they probably won’t sell quickly, as there are more common/uncommon/semi-rare items to “pick” from when giving out quests. You’ll want to keep the bulk of your shop stocked with uncommon/semi-rare items, with a few common and rare/super rare ones.

Plushies and beanbags are really good sellers as they’re the majority of what Volcan asks for, and Traveler also requests them often, so I suggest keeping your shop stocked heavily with them. Furniture and toys also sell fairly well once you figure out what items are requested most. If you’re a bit more daring, you can buy newly released items and try to sell them for a high profit - but keep in mind others will have this same strategy, and the price could drop extremely low very quickly! I usually only do this if it’s a highly sought after collections item, and not long after its release.

You will probably spend a lot of mc at first to stock your shop, but you won’t need to fill it completely every day, and the profit is definitely worth it! I would suggest keeping your shop stocked with at least 50-60 buyable items - meaning items that are currently cheapest in user shops and ready to sell, nothing that’s just sitting there above other prices “rotting” counts towards this.

Remember to price check before buying anything! Many are under priced in user shops and won’t make a good profit. 

Pricing -

Again, quests are the key here. If you’re selling mainly quest items, you’ll want to keep your prices a little under Traveler or Volcan rewards, or else no one will buy from you because it won’t be worth it. Keep in mind that Traveler gives 5x the base price of item as a reward and Volcan 3x. To find out what the exact reward for any item is, check out the official help site (link located in the left hand menu at the very end), search for your item and you’ll be told the base price. Multiply this by three or five and you have the quest reward.

I keep mainly to Volcan pricing. My strategy is to buy an item, round down to the nearest hundred (after figuring out what 3x the price is), and then go 100mc below that. If the user shop price is below that but still reasonable, I will price no more than 5mc under the cheapest shop. I won’t buy an item to sell if it’s priced in user shops 1,000mc or more below Volcan quest reward price, but you can determine your own limits.

To demonstrate this, I’ll use the Noir Emperon Plushie as an example. It costs 2,583mc at Cuddly Stuffies, and Volcan will give 7,749mc as a reward for this item if he asks for it. If there were none of this item in user shops or they were all priced ridiculously high, I would sell this at 7,600mc. However, since they are in user shops for 7,514mc (at the time of this writing), I would price mine at 7,510mc. If this item was selling for 6,600mc or less in user shops, I would not have bought it to sell.

When pricing, watch out for undercutting! Using the example above, if someone suddenly started selling the plushie for 4,000mc or some other such low price and I already had the item in my shop, I would just let it sit, I wouldn’t price mine below theirs. It’s not worth it. I would make a better profit by waiting for the item to come up on a quest, or until the under priced item was bought and mine was cheapest again. Also, keep in mind that undercutting will not make anything sell faster! As long as your prices are reasonable you’ll make MC.

A note on Autopricers: Think twice before using one! These are expensive, one use only items, so unless your shop is extremely large and generating a lot of profit, I would stay away from them. Also keep in mind that by using something that automatically makes you the cheapest shop, you could lose a lot of profit to any items that have been undercut in price.

With this guide and a little experimenting, you’ll be making plenty of profit in just a few days!
