Slushie Quest, Part 3
Written By Fallout

The plane ride had been long and boring. The pilot had no sense of humor and the only thing Miss Kitty wanted to talk about was the Golden Slushie and what he needed to do to get there. Once they'd arrived at their destination, she handed over the map, practically pushed him towards a mountain, and told him to get moving, barely giving him time to shove a pair of plastic wrapped sandwiches into his pocket for a later snack.

“There's a darling little poof waiting by the gate to guide you!” Miss Kitty shouted to him while the pilot prepared to take off once more. “Oh, and watch out for mountain monsters! Wouldn't want a great adventurer like yourself getting eaten!”

Sebastion laughed at her joke and readjusted the sandwiches so they wouldn't get squished before starting off. He pushed his way through a crowd of villagers towards the gate that Miss Kitty had directed him to go towards and saw a light blue poof staring at a map. “Ah, you must be Powderpuff,” Sebastion said to the poof. Powderpuff looked up from the map and shook his head in the affirmative. There was a jingling sound, like his head was filled with jingle bells. The emperon showed Powderpuff the rag-like map in his possession. “This map says the Slushie is located on Mount Neapolitan. Is that this mountain?” He pointed towards the mountain on the other side of the gate. Powderpuff nodded once more. “Well then if you're ready, we better get moving!”

Powderpuff ran to a guard standing at one side of the gate and said something to him, his voice sounding like someone squeezing a rubber ducky. The guard nodded and opened the gate. Looking back at Sebastion, expecting him to follow, Powderpuff began to walk through towards the mountain.

The mountains were cold and windy, but it wasn't anything that Sebastion or Powderpuff couldn't handle as each of them were well-built for the cold and the snow. A few times the poof had to shake off the snow that accumulated in his fur and Sebastion had to pull up the rim of his jacket to keep the wind out of his eyes, but all in all the trip was uneventful.

“The map says that we're looking for a rock shaped like an ice cream cone next. Do you know where that is?” Sebastion asked. Powderpuff had to think, but only for a second, before he started marching off in another direction, up towards a steep, rocky slope.

“Squeak, squeak!” Powderpuff said, a warning to be careful on the icy rocks.

The climb must have taken them forever. Almost an hour later, they were nearly at the top. “You know Powderpuff, you're awfully good at climbing for a guy who doesn't have any arms,” Sebastion observed. The poof expertly hopped from rock to rock like a mountain climbing cottonball and maintained his place in the lead the entire time.

Powderpuff was about to respond when he heard a loud boom. He stared straight ahead, his pupils widening, as he realized what that sound was. He looked to his left and noticed a small, sheltering cave. “SQUEAK! SQUEAK!” he shouted in a panic before diving inside.

Sebastion just barely made it in as the avalanche of snow rushed past them. Their little cave managed to shelter them from harm, but it, along with them, was quickly buried under the frozen water. Powderpuff was pressed as far back into the cave as he could fit his fluffy body and Sebastion watched in horror as the snow settled, some of it pouring into the mouth of their cave. Finally the avalanche stopped, but they realized quickly that they were trapped.

“Squeak, squeak?” Powderpuff asked.

“You're right,” Sebastion nodded. “We'll have to dig our way out.”

They both had the benefit of being arctic-dwelling creatures on their side. No one knew how to dig through snow like a Blizzards Realm native! Sebastion tunneled their way out by digging frantically with his flippers while Powderpuff merely kicked at the snow until chunks fell aside, both of them hurrying to get out before they ran out of air. Their hard work paid off when Sebastion's fist punched through and he felt a breeze above, the air surprisingly colder than the snow below.

“We made it!” Sebastion said. Powderpuff squeaked and they both worked together to push aside the last crust of snow. “We made it! We're out! We...” Sebastion paused his celebration and looked around him. Powderpuff was shivering beside him, but not from the cold.

In the pale moonlight were several eerie figures, watching, waiting. Mountain monsters.

Will our heroes make it out alive? Will they be eaten by mountain monsters instead? Does this look infected to you? Find out next month on Slushie Quest!

I dunno about infected, but if those are mountain monsters, I'd say you have more of an infestation on your hands.
