Slushie Quest, Part 2
Written By Fallout

Long after Freezy Treats had closed, Sebastion sat alone in his office, still staring at the phone number in front of him. His mind replayed the events that had transpired over and over again. The Golden Slushie...could it actually be real? Back when this store still belonged to his grandparents, Sebastion's grandfather often spoke of a wondrous frozen treat the likes of which no one had ever tasted. It was said that if one could successfully retrieve a sample of the slushie and recreate it, their business would never fail. Of course he wasn't exactly struggling as he kind of held the monopoly on frozen treats, but Freezy Treats could stand to do a little better at certain colder times of the year.

He also had to consider his shop. He couldn't just close it while he was gone, especially not now that summer was in full swing and business was booming. He'd have to leave it to his employees while he was away. He was sure they could handle it, but things would be crazy and he worried about leaving some of the newer hires alone without his supervision sometimes. His managers would have to be working pretty hard to keep up.

As he mulled it over there was a knock at the door. Sally, one of his hardest working employees, peered in through the slightly ajar door. “I'm heading out, boss. Everything's locked up and accounted for,” she said.

“Okay. Enjoy the rest of your night,” he replied.

Sally was about to leave when she grew curious about what he was doing. “You've been sitting in here for the longest time. What are you looking at?”

“Oh, just a phone number,” Sebastion replied. “This woman wants me to call her.” Just as quickly he added, “Oh, it's not like that.”

“So what is it then?”

“Okay, you're probably going to laugh when you hear this, but that haruba woman who was just here earlier offered to hire me to find the Golden Slushie.” Sally didn't laugh like he expected her to. In fact, she was quite silent. “The thing is, I don't know whether or not to call her back and agree to it. Part of me is telling me that the Slushie doesn't exist and that it's just a myth, but the other part of me is just so curious to know if it's actually true or not.”

Sally thought it over and absorbed all the information he had just given her. “I say you should go for it.”

“Really?” Sebastion replied, curious to hear her reasoning behind her advice.

“What if it really is real? If I really wanted to learn if something was real or not, I'd go find out myself! I think you should too!”

“You do realize that the worst case scenario is that I get all the way over there and find out that it's not really real, right?” Sebastion pointed out.

“Yeah. I understand that,” Sally nodded. She finally turned to go home as her shift had ended almost an hour ago and she had to make sure her husband had the kids under control. Before she could leave however, she looked over her shoulder and said, “But it would still be one heck of an adventure either way.”

Sebastion watched her walk out the front door and drive away towards her home. He considered what she had said to him. He really did want to know if the Slushie was real, enough that feeding his curiosity seemed worth the possibility that it was a hoax and he was wasting his time all along.

He thought about it some more until he couldn't think any longer and packed up to go home. Before he left his office, he picked up the phone and dialed the number written on the peace of paper Miss Kitty had given him.

“Kitty?” he said when a familiar female voice answered. “I'll do it.”

After all, if it turned out to not be real, it would still be one heck of an adventure.

What awaits Sebastion on his journey? Will the Golden Slushie turn out to be a fake? Will Sebastion find it? Will his employees burn down the shop while he's away? Tune in next month to find out!
