How to Quest
Written By TheBrokenFox
Have you ever sought hard for an item only to cry in dismay as you lose money on your venture, going broke while attempting to complete a quest? I know I've been in this position many times before. Items listed with 2-5 thousand as the Mistic shop price skyrocket to 25k, 50k, 100k, and beyond. Pandoria forbid it be the only one in the user market! Before I knew what was happening, I was losing tens of thousands of MC I didn’t have to waste. Quests are becoming harder and harder to complete due to overpricing and can lead to huge losses if you're not careful. Here, I will show you the tips and tricks of navigating through the wild jungle that is the Traveler’s Quest.
Be it my terrible luck or utmost pickiness, I usually only complete 30-40% of the quests I undertake, and that’s on a good round. Today I only completed 3 of the 10 Traveler’s quests. I was able to bank 31, 634 and managed NOT to lose over 60k. By knowing how much an item costs and going through the motions outlined in this segment, you too can gain and save more money than ever before!
The first step you must take is to open up a second window or tab so you can have your quest and the Mistic Help Site at your disposal. Begin your quest and find the item our Strange friend is wanting. My first item today was “Ice Pizza”. Find the “Items” tab on the left hand side of the Mistic Help Site and click the “Items” button when it prompts. You will want to search all of the items. Put in your item (Ice Pizza for me) and find out how much the original Mistic Shop Price is. This may take a moment to load, so go on to the next step while you wait.
Now, while that is loading, return to your search on the first window. Search all the shops for your item. I found that the lowest a shop had the Ice Pizza listed for was 12,000 and the most was 55,000. If you haven’t figured it out already, find the original posted amount for your item. Ice Pizza would cost 3,673 if found in a regular shop. Check the shops for your item; I checked all the food shops that may have served Ice Pizza, and didn’t find one listed. Sometimes you get lucky and can find them in the regular shops, so don’t be afraid to take some extra time to look. Generally as a rule, you will find the regular shops are much cheaper than the user market.
Time to do some comparing. The original cost of this item is 3,673, right? And the lowest marked price, since none of the regular shops had it, is 12,000. The Strange Traveler shovels out money in increments of 3.5x-5x the amount it originally cost, not how much you bought it for. So let’s do some math. At 3.5x, I would get back 12,856mc, so this time it's worth buying from the user shops at 12,000 even if the Traveler gives out the minimum reward.
Sometimes, you only have a 50/50 chance or lower of making a profit, and when this happens the decision is really up to you. Is it worth risking the money?
One way to save time doing quests is to search for the user Kauri and bookmark the Quest Calculator linked on their profile. You can then use it to search for any item requested by the Traveler or Volcan and immediately know the minimum and maximum payouts for that item, as well as how much it costs in the Mistic shops. The only downside is that the calculator is occasionally out of date, in which case you can consult the help site.
Over the course of the next nine quests, I ended up making over 31k and managed not to lose just over 60k by using this technique: search, compare, and decide. These very steps have made it easy for me to become a much smarter buyer in the Mistic realm, and I hope it can help you on your way as well.
