This Month in Mistica: March '12
Written By Caustic
This Month in Mistica is a quick guide to everything that’s happened on site in the past month. Whether you’re new and want a better idea of what goes on here, an older user who’s returning, or simply too lazy to read the news, this article has all -- okay, most -- of the information you need!
I hope you like slithery things, because March is always about the Znakes!
First, congratulations to the Art, Writing and Poetry contest winners: God, Stick, Music; black_shadow, Musical, Rose; black_shadow, Music and JessiCosmic!
We still had a little bit of Revelry to celebrate as February turned into March. The Rougarou was finally woken up on the 2nd and he wasted no time opening up his prize shop. Zulime’s sour mood seemed to subside and she reopened her poppet shop as well.
The next day the Vending Machine was stocked with all sorts of new items, and the machine itself got a bit of a tweak. Quoting from March 3rd’s newspost: For the first week of Release, only the 10 current month's items will be in the vending machine. After this time, prior month's items will be added in low numbers so that there is a chance to get past items into circulation. No more than 3 month's of items will be in the vending machine at one point. The schedule has been posted in the FAQ for easy reference.
Our Revelry came to an end on the 4th. The Rougarou went back to sleep, though Benni stuck around for a short time to allow more Misticans a chance at his prizes.
But one celebration just leads to another, and Whacking Day was coming! On the 8th Keilly released some delicious new treats so we’d all be sugared up and energized for the whacking to come.
Despite the coming spring, the Diamond Glacier Domain saw another large banishment of Kohals. Queen Boreal, upon noticing an odd crystal toadstool affecting her servants, expelled many of them, but the ones lucky enough to find new owners have a chance at some new colors! The Crystallized Toadstool was discovered on the 9th, and it allows any Kohal who eats it to turn into that month’s birthstone color. Feron has a few in stock, but they’re rare…
On the 11th we congratulated our wonderful artist Thanatoast on her new position as Art Lead! The Vending Machine was also updated with some older items.
Deciding to take a more sophisticated approach to Keilly’s Rordon-inspired drinks, Gordon released seven flavors of tea on the 13th.
Keilly wasn’t about to take that lying down, so two days later she came out with her own Eucalyptus Tea! Member shops also got a makeover, and are now alphabetized and paginated.
The next day we celebrated Ghost’s birthday! Makoto managed to get his hands on the birthday item, the appropriately named Haunted Pocketwatch.
And on the 17th, Whacking Day finally arrived! Znakes swarmed underneath the feet of Misticans everywhere and a new Barbaric Whacking Stick was released (MAWZ advocates weren’t too thrilled).
The 18th saw a whole new horde of Znakes among the ones we all know so well! A new Python wearable was released along with some old Whacking Day favorites.
Since Mondays are now dedicated to keeping members updated on the site, the 19th was the first Development Log. A number of things were fixed, such as problems with hatchipals, as well as the temporary replacement of our map with simpler signs for each destination.
Winter pets had their last hurrah on the 20th with the release of the Wintergala Tarinooki and Frost Zokuleon! However this was almost overshadowed by the appearance of a golden scale, the source of which remains unknown.
The next day, Whacking Day continued and MAWZ was winning! Before the end of the holiday two new Znakes, Toxic and Plague, were discovered.
On the 22nd writing applications opened, and the next day new contests were posted.
The Development Log for the 26th announced Legendary comments, a small Battle Portal update and plans for a clothing quick stock option.
Whacking Day was over by now, but Mistica woke to more excitement on the 27th! Researchers, intrigued by the curious golden scale found earlier, combed the Woods of Ages for clues as to who or what it could have come from. They hit gold when they found a clear set of footprints, but it seems that the prints didn’t match any species known to Mistica! Of course, the possibility remains that they are a hoax, but researchers are determined to find out.
Mid-week reminders for the Chronicles and contest voting were posted the next day. Make sure to get your votes in! And as usual, we’re always looking for articles submitted by members.
On the 30th, more mystery arose with the discovery of an odd picture from the Woods of Ages. At first it seemed like a cute, ordinary photo, but in the background an unknown figure watched...
With the appearance of mysterious prints and that odd scale, not to mention our usual infestation of slithery Znakes, March had us all pretty busy! Hopefully, answers will be found, but with Poisson D’Avril just around the corner, who knows?
