King Mephitic
Written By DreamDragon
May 26th started out as a normal day in Mistica. All Misticans and their pets were off to a beautiful day. The only odd part was that Tormic, the shopkeeper had been missing for some time, however all thought he was well. As it turned out, he was very well indeed! He returned that day with many strange, beautiful and frightening new creatures. They resembled already well-known species, but these were different. Tormic's act of bringing these fantastic creatures back to Darkwood Hollow seemed innocent, but this would start a war that Mistica will not soon forget. This is the story of one peaceful community torn to shambles and brought to its knees. This is the story of the Prank War of 2009.
If Tormic only knew the woe he would single-handily bring upon Mistica! His actions quickly got the attention of King Mephitic, ruler of the Imps. The Imp King was furious that Tormic, a Sprite of all things, would dare to steal away the Imps' precious collection of these marvellous and bizarre creatures. King Mephitic sent his loyal subjects out into the Hollow to do what Imps do best: cause mischief! To make matters worse, Tormic had brought back more of the creatures from the depths of Darkwood Hollow than originally was thought.
Imps spread far and wide to carry out their king's orders. Mistica didn't have time to grasp what was happening; it was all to fast! Profiles were a main target and quickly riddled with graffiti. Buildings were being vandalized with bright red pain left and right. Signs were perpetually being hung on unsuspecting victims' backs that read insults and such, like "Kick Me!" for example. It was pandemonium! Soon there came a point when Misticans were asked to take sides, whether to be an Imp or a Sprite. They were also encouraged to pull pranks on the opposing side with rewards like money and such. As can be imagined, this situation did nothing but perpetuate things. Now, Misticans were not only pranking Imps or Sprites, but themselves! King Mephitic only stood by and encouraged the war to rage on. As an Imp himself, he was rather enjoying watching the chaos unfold before him.
Days went by, and more Misticans chose their side to fight on. Countless profiles were lost, along with such atrocities as fake insects being put in food(although sometimes this was done with live insects as well), games of "Ding-Dong-Ditch" being played well into the wee hours of the morning, and untold amounts of toilet paper hanging in the trees. Then, on May 30th, a grave turn of events...Pandoria, the creator of the mysterious Pandoria Boxes, was at the wrong end of a prank. She was dranched with a bucket of water that had been perched above the door to her chambers. Now, the citizens of Mistica would feel her wrath! With a quick incantation, she cursed the Sprites and the Imps, and vanished. She has not been seen ever since, and her shop remains closed until further notice.
The now cursed beings began to suffer their consequences immediately. The Imps have everlasting nightmares drenched in such horrors as white-bodied creatures with rainbow colored patches and brightly colored butterfly-like wings. Their pastel eyes seer deep into the Imps' mind, causing them to feel as if they are in sunlit meadows, frolicking among flowers or making daisy-chains. The Imps wake up writhing and screaming in their beds. If that isn't bad enough, the Sprite have perpetual nightmares of their own. They find themselves shrouded in darkness, and meeting creatures more horrifying than one can imagine. These products of fear come in semi-recognizable forms, but now they are twisted into things with huge fangs and claws, many eyes in all the wrong places, no eyes where there should be, multiple limbs, mouths...You name it! Between these two horrifying visions, gut-wrenching shrieks and screams now fill the air in Darkwood Hollow. They are never-ending, for everything has to sleep at some point, and that's when the nightmares come.
Take heed, Mistica! Let it be known that no deed goes unpunished, especially if you happen to pull a prank on someone that has the ability to wield very powerful magic!
